Like Batman, Dick Tracy and The Crow, The Shadow is more of a mood than an interesting yarn... But the film possesses a warmth and humor missing from the others.

What makes Baldwin's performance, and the film, so enjoyable is the refreshing absence of angst. Cranston Is no tortured hero... He's a good guy and he knows it, and he's not afraid to enjoy the high life when he's not fighting crime.

The Shadow seeks to be another Batman. It is more likely to be another Doc Savage or Flash Gordon - both lackluster attempts to translate past pulp heroes into big-screen money.

Underrated movie. It's a film noir homage mixed with campy 30s 40s pulp fiction/radio style story telling in a Tim Burton-esque shooting style. Effects are good for the time it was made. Old school movie lot sets and model city buildings. Very cool. There's some things that don't make sense but can be attributed to "he has powers and we're not sure of their full extent." A tad long. Could have been 10 to 15 minutes shorter but it was fun overall.

This movie was released just two days before my fifth birthday. I first watched it later on pay-per-view and immediately loved it. Revisiting it as an adult, I believe Alec Baldwin was perfectly cast—his stature, voice, and screen presence embody the character exceptionally well. In my opinion, this film is highly underrated and deserves recognition as a cult classic.
