Par H @Parhwy May 8 Big Town After Dark (1947) is a 69-minute-long thriller/noir (USA) I saw on free-to-air TV (Channel 31, Australia) in May 2026. Lotta smoking, lotta hats, lotta yelling at women, lotta squishy interior sets where actors feel unnaturally close to each other (even in car scenes), lotta fisticuffs… Actors seem to know their standing points and timing so well, it feels unnatural. There are intrigues and double crossings. There is even a montage! The acting is woody yet smug in a weird way (or that could be the directing/scripting), especially from the main good guy and main bad guy; that said, Mr Peabody struck me as the weakest character and or actor: he is meant to be a rich, powerful newspaper owner yet his demeanour, words/voice, actions come across as a Steinbeck farmer from Salinas wearing a suit for the day. Recommend? No. Rewatch? No. 3/10. See more Read all reviews
