Rated 1.5/5 Stars •  Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/24/25 Full Review Audience Member I only saw parts of this growing up and didn’t remember much then again it was 30 years ago Rudyard Kipling’s famous story the Jungle Book has been adapted several times Walt Disney Pictures did their animated version and 27 years later they did it again in live action before the 2016 version Jason Scott-Lee, a young Lena Headey, Cary Elwes, John Cleese, and Sam Neil Mowgli and Katherine or Kitt had both mothers who passed away As children they grew up together exploring the jungle but Shere Khan the tiger kills Mowgli’s father The boy gets lost in the jungles of India and grows up with panther Bagira and bear Baloo Mowgli here is focused on as a grown up and when he’s found by human civilization they find him fascinating teaching him to be civilized Mowgli though feels anything but a normal member of society and when his home is threatened by Captain Boone willing to raid the treasure he’ll need the help of his animal friends to save it Hardly anyone has been able to adapt the book successfully since much of it is very dark This one is more light and fluffy perhaps being the furthest removed from the original source material being more fun and campy It acts as a treasure hunt after Mowgli is taken out of his natural habitat Lee really carries the film being he has hardly any dialogue and has to rely on facial expressions and reactions, he’s actually really good conveying that goodness and strength can go hand in hand if you’re man, animal or neither The film does play like a 1940s adventure serial Overall this version of the classic story by Kipling isn’t the most accurate but it’s still entertaining with some very committed actors and spectacular settings Rated 4/5 Stars •  Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/29/24 Full Review Rami A While I do prefer the 1967 animated film over this one by a long shot, I still found this to be a good adaptation.
