      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book may not hew as closely to the book as its title suggests, but it still offers an entertaining live-action take on a story best known in animated form.

Rami A While I do prefer the 1967 animated film over this one by a long shot, I still found this to be a good adaptation. With a good plot, good acting, and good special effects. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/26/23 Full Review Ethan G Although it strays away from what its title suggests and what it should be, this live action take on the beloved "Jungle Book" story is a fun time. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/10/23 Full Review James B i remember watching this film growing up its a classic. cool quicksand scene and the treasure at the end cool plot see it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/04/23 Full Review Heather M I love this movie! It's Jungle Book mixed with Tarzan & Indiana Jones. I grew up watching this movie and it makes me very nostalgic. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/17/23 Full Review Audience Member Too flawless for words. Brilliant characters, gorgeous soundtrack, and some of the most charming and witty dialogue a movie has to offer. Not to mention the presence of impressive and stunning animals. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member More of an adaptation of Tarzan starring Mowgli than truly applicable for "the first ever Disney live-action remake", Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book has a talented cast and isn't without its moments, even managing to go a decent amount of time without any dialogue early in the film but the lack of action, some dodgy effects and the aforementioned problem of feeling more like Tarzan rather than The Jungle Book make this a movie that works better as a stand-alone movie rather than as an adaptation or "remake". Jonathan Romney Guardian It's less a return to Kipling than to the 1942 Alexander Korda epic, and some of the lush matte shots will touch a chord with Technicolor nostalgists. Mar 2, 2024 Full Review Stephen Amidon Financial Times There is not a cartoon or song around. Rather, such fine actors as Sam Neill, John Cleese and Cary Elwes ham it up with great energy and wit on sumptuous locations. Mar 1, 2024 Full Review Geoff Brown Times (UK) A wearisome, if well-polished, film, desperately uncertain how best to please its audience. Mar 1, 2024 Full Review Philip French Observer (UK) It is crude, old-fashioned stuff but the Indian settings are spectacular. Mar 1, 2024 Full Review Mike Massie Gone With The Twins Despite all the obvious derivations from other productions, the harder edge and the continual excitement contribute to a consistently high entertainment value. Rated: 8/10 Sep 14, 2020 Full Review Malcolm Johnson Hartford Courant It isn't Kipling, but it is good old-fashioned Saturday-matinee fun. Jun 17, 2020 Full Review Read all reviews
