Mark J A very good adaption in terms of story and direction with a solid Scrooge. Sadly some of the made for TV aspects show through in the acting and visuals. Impressive they found a real life zombie to play Tiny Tim. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/04/24 Full Review Rick M One of the two best versions ever made, in my considered opinion. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/01/24 Full Review Wayne K Charle's Dickens' classic tale A Christmas Carol is such a timeless and beautiful story that you could make 100 adaptation of it, and at least 90 will be great. The themes, characters and moral lessons have resonated with every generation since it was published 180 years ago. My personal favourite adaptation of the source material is the one from 1992 starring The Muppets, but this 1984 version starring Geroge C. Scott is certainly worthy of praise. Scott was a man who had no problem playing a gruff, abrasive character, an archetype he essential built his career on, and it turns out he can play the jolly, recently rediscovered his passion for life individual just as well. It's a film that really leans into the darker elements of the story, with lots of creepy imagery and sound, and by portraying Scrooge more as a sad, lonely man than a committed miser and curmudgeon, we see him coming to the light more slowly than some other versions, and so when he sells it, you really believe that he's changed for the better. Some probably consider it too scary to show to kids, but I think that's the reason it actually works so well. A good jolt to the system is important, even essential, when crucial lessons are being taught, and the best way to address them is to take them head on. It might be one of the multitude of Christmas Carol adaptations that currently exists, but its also one of the finest I've yet seen. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/26/23 Full Review Alan T Excellent film. The acting was great from George C. Scott. The pacing was perfect for a story from Charles Dickens. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 12/26/23 Full Review Aaron L One of the best adaptations of A Christmas Carol! Highly reccomend this! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 12/24/23 Full Review Dennis P P I just don't think there is a better rendition! Amazing cast, setting (Shrewsbury England) & musical score. I just have yet to see another version that feels so authentic. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/24/23 Full Review Read all reviews
