In 1931, a lone survivor of the Hollandia, which set sail for Antarctica more than two decades prior, turns up in Ireland. He has film of the disastrous expedition, which reveals striking imagery of polar bears and frozen wastes. But even more compelling is the man's story of supernatural forces that he claims besieged the ship. This film, a unique fact/fiction hybrid, utilizes footage of Antarctica shot during the first half of the 1900s, when the continent was still strange and new.

Audience Member A bit of Jules Verne crossed with a bit of Rod Serling in a story that uses film footage from early polar expeditions to illustrate the story of an expedition that never happened. Or did it? I was initially put off by what seemed like a seeming over-reliance on Frank Hurley's familiar footage from the Shackleton expedition, but I was soon sucked in by the narrative. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member If only in my imagination. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member The Forbidden Quest is truly an open window to a rapidly disappearing era. The rotting nitrate film Peter Delpeut rescued from an Amsterdam theater is not only a bonanza for silent film fans, but also a dire warning for proper preservation of film history Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member this mock documentary is fabulous. I started watching it without any fore knowledge and was floored that it was a fake. Very compelling. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Read all reviews
