A long slow moving period drama romance with a sudden unexpected ending that rather achieved confusion than tragedy. It had engaging moments and some interesting dialogue that bespoke of a good book somewhere beneath the bad transcription. Unconvincing but not disastrous. See more 11/14/2009 Although there seemed to be a mass of passion bubbling under the surface of the story, the overall affect of the movie was fairly dull and cold. The characters seemed to have no depth especially the lead, and the plot seemed thrown together and awkward most of the time. The fact that there was that sense of underlying passion to the story and its characters indicates that the book on which it was based must be a brilliant read if you're into that sort of thing.
