In this update of a 1961 film, twins Annie and Hallie (Lindsay Lohan) are strangers until happenstance unites them. The preteen girls' divorced parents, Nick (Dennis Quaid) and Elizabeth (Natasha Richardson), are living on opposite sides of the Atlantic, each with one child. After meeting at camp, American Hallie and British-raised Annie engineer an identity swap, giving both the chance to spend time with the parent they've missed. If the scheme works, it might just make the family whole again.

Lisa Alspector Chicago Reader This 1998 romantic comedy mostly bores with its cumbersome exposition and close-ups of trivial objects scattered throughout lackluster montage sequences. May 27, 2011 Full Review Nell Minow Common Sense Media Delightful remake is great for the whole family. Rated: 4/5 Sep 7, 2010 Full Review Joe Leydon Variety New pic is slick, sentimental and exceptionally well cast, with enough cross-generational appeal to suggest strong commercial potential. Jul 6, 2010 Full Review Aaron Charles InSession Film In the end, this is a movie about family, love, loss and reunion. May 9, 2024 Full Review Danielle Solzman Solzy at the Movies Twenty-five years later, The Parent Trap still offers its audience a good time. Rated: 4/5 Aug 21, 2023 Full Review Emma Clark-Dow Stuff.co.nz Although The Parent Trap is very much a children's film, the sweetness of the story about trying to bring a broken family together holds strong and is still an excellent watch. Michael P A clever movie that has it's moments. I didn't even realize that it was the same actor playing the same girl! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/12/24 Full Review Alexandrea Nicole P I grew up watching this film, but re-watching it as an adult provides me with a truly comforting watch with an adorable & splendid dual performance by a young Lindsay Lohan, charming parents Natasha Richardson and Dennis Quaid, lovely Chessy the nanny played by Lisa Ann Walter, and the rest of the supporting cast. It's the kind of movie you put on to just relax and find a hopeful escape. The enthralling score by Alan Silvestri and seamless & heartfelt tone exuded by Nancy Myers' directorial debut has become her signature - This is a must-see watch for the generations to come and for a family of all ages. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/05/24 Full Review Faiz D A childhood favorite. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/29/24 Full Review Joseph B Lindsay Lohan’s breakout role just goes to show why she is such a great actress. Playing two different roles, with two different personalities, 2 accents, and all as a young child is no simple task. Her performance is perhaps the greatest performance audiences have seen from a child actor. The film’s romantic comedy elements and modern day-inclusions is an improvement from its 1961 predecessor. An absolute classic from wonderfully talented actors including Lohan, Dennis Quaid, Natasha Richardson, and others. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/11/24 Full Review Tatum M This is a classic movie, so heartwarming and cute. Loved every second of it. Probably memorized half of the movie from how many times I’ve seen it. Lindsey was so cute! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/26/24 Full Review Dale R This is a remake of the 1961 film of the same name that starred Hayley Mills, this time starring Lindsay Lohan in her first film. The performances of Mills and Lohan are comparable though Mills did have a little more acting experience than Lohan did when filming these films. Also, Lohan doesn’t sing. This new film follows the old one almost beat for beat, with a few changes that make this one slightly better. It is so spot on to the original that I at times felt like I was watching the same movie. I did miss the Grandmother from the first film as she was my favorite character. My favorite character in this movie is by far Chessy, the father's housekeeper played by Lisa Ann Walter. In this version the mother lives in London instead of Boston, which makes the two girls have to switch accents. The split screen technology that was in its early years for the original film is used well here, but there are some noticeable line of sight issues when the girls look at each other. The ending of this movie is more satisfying than the original. The soundtrack, while a little dated with 90’s pop music, is enjoyable and may be worth checking out. I think this movie is worth your time. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/07/24 Full Review Read all reviews
