Emily P I've seen this movie 100's of thousands of times since I was 10. At the end of April 2004 I saw this movie I loved it from the moment it began I knew just by seeing Leelee Sobieski as Joan it was obvious she was the first actress to be around the age of the historical figure for when she first led the Army of France to victory over the English to when she died at the age of 19. I've waited so long to share my review because I'm honestly upset that someone would say in their review Sobieski doesn't have a clue. I'm still very curious to know what she didn't have a clue about. I think her portrayal of Joan was good, convincing, and believable. I realize now that an article from the Pittsburgh Gazette was right about one thing they found I think a total of 15 inaccuracies for this movie the two I will point are Joan and Pierre Cauchon didn't know each other prior to her trial unfortunately and second I wish this were true but the French didn't attempt to rescue her once she was in Rouen which was English territory at the time that was it. Joan's fate had been sealed. I think in all honesty this movie should have a higher critic score than 10%. The script was well written, the cast was perfect from Leelee to Shirley Mclaine. I'm editing this in after the fact but Leelee was the first actress to be around the same age as Joan but Neil Patrick Harris who is literally a decade older than Leelee was around the same age as Charles the VII when this aired so why was he recognized for being around the same age as the real Charles the VII? If they have 2 people in the cast around the ages of the historical figures both should be recognized for it not just one. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/24/24 Full Review John A Peter O'Toole and Patrick Harris seem to be the only on-key performers in this late 90's TV biopic. This poorly edited 3 hour fling doesn't have anywhere near the amount of impact found in other films that tackle this subject. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 10/28/23 Full Review deepali v The movie is really classy and besically presents Joan of Arc as a normal human being who is courageous and has saintly qualities. Leelee has portrayed Joan so ardently that I can't imagine any other actress playing Joan the way she has played it. So far this movie portrays Joan as a genuinely saintly person with noble intentions and not as a psychic person who keeps hearing voices as if she has some mental problem and who is a fanatic. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/29/23 Full Review JoeyAMG G This movie captures the truth and does a fantastic job in displaying the historical accuracy of the events that occurred during this time. It is moving, inspiring and one great piece that is heavily underrated. Sometimes there are movies that I watch that have more than 3 stars… they are silly and ok, but do not make you question life. This does that. If her experiences were real… what does it mean? And if they weren't… still look what they DID! Thanks to her the French do not speak English as their first language.
