Tony M 10 Rillington Place is a disturbing film. It's a true story that stays in your head long after watching it. A great horror movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Tense, gruesome and anxiety inducing. Excellent film. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review jon c Starring Richard Attenborough and John Hurt. Based on the real life serial killer John Christie who murdered a dozen women masquerading as a doctor in his local residence. He was a decorated police officer during the war but lured in many of his victims, killed them and finally burying them in his backyard cemetery. Based on the book by Ludovic Kennedy. Beryl and Timothy have just moved into a new flat with their baby, the landlord just happens to be Mr. Christie. After Christie does his latest killing he creates a scapegoat for getting away with it. The movie acts like more of a slow burner watching his plan take shape; seeing someone else take the blame for it is distressing. Attenborough is brilliant playing this calm but ultimately frightening monster of a character. His voice seems kind but he could snap at any moment given his piercing eyes and unpredictable thinking. Hurt is helplessly lost completely oblivious to this killer's methods. Essentially the movie and the book has its players kicking down a downwards spiral. The evil acts of someone can only go unnoticed for so long. John Christie was one of the most notorious killers in London that almost got away with it. It's still terrifying seeing someone like this carefully making his way around throwing so much suspicion out the window. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member If 30 minutes had been cut from this film, it would have been tighter, cleaner and better, There was a lot of superfluous scenes or scenes that went on to long, without building any additional tension, drama or mood. Attenborough's acting is engrossing but, when he is off screen, the movie grinds to a halt. What is more interesting than this actually true story, is the story of the later impact the wrongful execution had on moving England towards the elimination of the death penalty. Too bad that was not addressed in the movie. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member A murder/mystery movie from the 70's? Usually means a very poorly developed plot with generic cinematography, but I was very impressed with "10 Rillington Place"! The movie had such a gloomy, dark look to it; something that is hard to achieve in a film shot in color. In that way, it's almost reminiscent of the film-noir era in the 40's and early 50's. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Another case of a dozen "critics" not perceiving what thousands of viewers experienced. John Hurt turns in a stunning performance, bringing a human form to a grisly legend. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
