Critics Consensus

Director Reitman tries to remake Ghostbusters, but his efforts are largely unsuccessful because the movie has too many comedic misfires.

Nicolas D For a film that dates back to 2001, I really liked the approach and the modernity of the special effects. I recommend it for a good laugh in the evening. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/24/24 Full Review KH B It’s a silly romp through science fiction. Cast is definitely solid but the direction and script I think are the weakest parts. I wouldn’t discourage anyone from watching it but don’t enter into the film with Oscar worthy expectations. Good Saturday night comedy to kill some couch surfing time with a date. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/04/24 Full Review Xandra B I’m reviewing a movie from 2001 right now because if I can save anyone else from watching this then I have to try. My boyfriend put it on for a relaxing Sunday movie it felt like I was being punished the entire time. It’s truly bad. The story line is manageable bad sci-fi, hop skip jump fake science assumptions and illogical and silly actions. Honestly I love that kinda stuff! It is the writing that makes it unwatchable. My boyfriend normally has really good taste in movies so I didn’t say anything until we were very far in. I kept expecting some magical redeeming thing to occur. By the time I did it was too late, we were in it. Please, I beg of you, skip this if you don’t want to actively regret the past couple hours of your life. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/30/24 Full Review babarizam D A perfect weekend film Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/14/24 Full Review Emma S Iconic. I've seen this movie a thousand times by now. Excellent movie to show your kid so they grow a sense of humour. People out there are boring. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/01/24 Full Review matthias s "Evolution" brought with it sky-high expectations, given my admiration for Ivan Reitman's previous works. The film boasts a stellar cast, and the premise is nothing short of great—a perfect blend of sci-fi and humor. The chemistry between David Duchovny and Julianne Moore is palpable, contributing to the movie's charm. The dialogue is laced with humor, adding an extra layer to the overall enjoyment. While the effects are decent, they manage to bring the extraterrestrial chaos to life effectively. The film exudes major Ghostbusters vibes but with a cosmic twist, creating a unique and entertaining experience. It might not reach the pinnacle of greatness, but it's undeniably fun and enjoyable. The idea of turning this into a TV show is tantalizing; the episodic format could explore the alien shenanigans with even more depth. "Evolution" may not be a masterpiece, but it certainly tickles the funny bone and leaves you wanting more extraterrestrial hilarity. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/23/24 Full Review Read all reviews
