Nick Schager Lessons of Darkness Its portrait of spiritual estrangement generates profound unease. Rated: A- Nov 8, 2005 Full Review Kelly Vance East Bay Express Junko suffers from Lady Macbeth syndrome with a 21st-century careerist twist: Her ambition is strictly for herself, and she'll kill to satisfy it, quickly and coldly. May 4, 2010 Full Review Dennis Schwartz Dennis Schwartz Movie Reviews Under Kurosawa's richly stylized direction it's kept moody, atmospheric and what seems only frivolous entertainment becomes something that's more provocative. Rated: B Jun 29, 2008 Full Review Jason Gorber Film Scouts A mix of crime drama and psychic mysticism, the film plays like a thriller without many thrills. Rated: C- Jun 21, 2007 Full Review Ken Hanke Mountain Xpress (Asheville, NC) Kurosawa's film is creepy -- the atmosphere is bathed in dread -- but rarely frightening. william s Thin.....this movie is just thin. There is no real meat on this carcuss of a film.Should've,could've been more. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member (***): Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member A supreme quiet brilliance, horror never felt so human and vulnerable Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member Un thriller malin et original, dont le rythme tres lent deroute un peu au depart pour mieux saisir d'effroi a l'arrivee. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member This is a very slow movie. It really didn't have much of a scare factor at all. I mean don't get me wrong. It did have a little girl ghost and a couple other freaky ones, but not enough to give you nightmares. The movie did have a small build up and I was really hoping for a jam packed ending. But at the last 15 minutes of the film, it is as if they just; gave up. I was really confused. I actually found myself rewinding the movie because I thought I missed something. In the end though, the movie was uncomfortably silent in the dialog and story area. I could see this movie being really freaky if they just put it together right. I can't really tell if the cast was decent or not in the fact that their lines were so monotone. I will have to give credit to the little girl though. She had a little creepiness to her. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member One of the best in the genre and sadly overlooked due to its tv movie production.
