Critics Consensus

In an attempt to parody rom-com cliches, Date Movie ultimately makes a mockery of itself, with juvenile toilet humor and empty pop culture references.

Blu B Well compared to Epic & Disaster Movie..it's at least got parts of a functioning film. There's a start and end, it actually attempt for 40-50% of the time to focus on a actual story, and the characters all have arcs BARELY. So it gets points for that and is a significant step above those. Now that being said...It's horrifcally bad still. the editing, acting, soundtrack is all terrible. The cinematography is horifcally bad. It's the most basic camerawork, framing, cheap design you can think of. It gets a laugh less than 10% of the time (still an improvement on the ones above though...) But the rest is SOOOOO cringe worthy. Gross out, reference, shock humor, and just flat out lazy bad juvenile humor. This is literally what a white 14 year old would find funny in 2006 and NO ONE else in ANY OTHER time. I'm not kidding that it fits what a whole Rom Com story does in 1 hour 45 minutes into 15-20. After that the whole middle chunk is just her doing stuff with comedic skits for reference humor or gross out that if you cut it and skipped to the final 15 minutes, you would lose nothing. And it ironically gets SOOO boring. This has horifcally bad pacing. If you haven't seen any of the films referenced or commercials than you have no idea what is happening because none of them are set up in clever ways that work into the story. There just references for the sake of it. Alyson is alright in this and probably the best thing for what it's worth. The love interest is so cringe and bad. Heck lots of these aren't even romance movies they reference just things popular in 2006 like Star Wars & LOTR. Skip This. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 09/20/24 Full Review Jeremy A I saw this in a theatre like 18 years ago. Well. I walked out. It was the only movie I've ever walked out of. SO BAD. 0* Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 09/17/24 Full Review Gnr E They remind me my old friends i loved it Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/20/24 Full Review Schwindsichtiga d Hands down the worst movie I've ever seen. It is painful to watch. It should be so easy to squeeze AT LEAST ONE! LOUSY! STINKING! JOOOOOOOOOOOKKKKEEEE!!!!!!!!! out of the source material, yet the directors whiff more reliably than the 2019 Detroit Tigers, not a single one strikes home. Even with this one weak baseball reference, my review is already funnier than that movie, and that's a fact. Calling Date movie a parody is stretching the term irredeemably beyond breaking point, every single movie they reference is better and funnier than this one. Just remembering that I saw this makes me feel sick and unclean. I think I'd be a better person if I never saw this. May god have mercy on my soul. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/25/24 Full Review Phillip L A few funny parts here and there, not terrible but decent fun Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/24 Full Review Dave d Pretty funny, spoofs rom coms. Acting also quite good Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/18/23 Full Review Read all reviews
