Critics Consensus

Superhero Movie is not the worst of the spoof genre, but relies on tired gags and lame pop culture references all the same.

Rated: 2/5 Jun 5, 2008 Full Review Owen Gleiberman Entertainment Weekly There are a few lively bits, and one joke with an edge: a slap at Stephen Hawking and his computer-drone voice. Mostly, though, this is super-lame. Giovana L É engraçadinho, não mais que isso. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/05/24 Full Review Mark B I laughed at a good amount of the gags. This is not a good movie, this is a good time. 3.5 stars not for ground breaking cinema, it is mindless and funny. Some of the jokes don’t hit but enough do. A spoof of super hero movies ( mostly Spider-Man) and a send off to Naked Gun movies. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/27/24 Full Review Amir S A funny movie worth rewatching, good and funny jokes, it's a shame they don't make movies like this nowadays. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/15/24 Full Review marcus s It was a funny and creative movie. Much better than most superhero movies because it has a comedic script. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/10/24 Full Review Early W For the Gen Z crowd who only grew up with the MCU movies don't expect to find any of those references here. This movie came out the same year as Iron Man (2008) and The Incredible Hulk (2008). The MCU hadn't even been conceptualized and bought by Disney at it's release. Instead this movie's focus is on spoofing the first Sam Raimi Spider-Man film. There are some references to other Super Hero films such as The Fantastic Four, Batman, and Fox's X-Men films. The humor is juvenile and relies too much on obnoxious toilet humor and cartoonish slapstick. I think I only "chuckled" once during the whole film. Nothing to note about the acting except the late great Leslie Nielsen got roped into this project. I think at this point he was willing to take any role he could get to milk out a few more paychecks to leave his family. That's the only reason I can think of as to why he would ever agree to be in this horrible film. Save yourself a hour and a half and watch a funnier spoof movie like Airplane, or Spaceballs. Or anything Mel Brooks was involved with. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/10/24 Full Review Dimitris T This film doesn't give you a single minute to rest from cackling. It seems physically impossible for a parody to serve so many jokes in such small timespans over a duration of nearly one and a half hours. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/27/24 Full Review Read all reviews
