Roc D sucks. not good. bad. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/13/24 Full Review Audience Member heres the formula: memento+boyz in tha hood= this one Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member 2010 as a movie year really does suck for me so far. So when I say that 'Splinter' managed to snatch number one spot in this year's 'Whew, this one really sucked'-list, it's no mean acomplishment. Basically everything in this flick oozes of mediocrity - script, story, pace, character development and camera work. To top it all off, Resmine Atis pulls of the worst acting job I've had displeasure to watch in a very, VERY long time. I'm sorry, I know saying something like that is harsh and unkind, but please, consider seriously a change of career. The only highlight of this disaster is Tom Sizemore, who plays a derailed, alcoholized cop and doesn't pull any punches when he puts in all clichées into his character. No, I don't mean that as a complement. Regardless, his performance deserves over the top rating when compared with the rest of the cast - something that is especially apparent in every scene where miss Atis is also present. Please, avoid this movie like an Ebola-carrying monkey on amfetamin trip. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member I like Tom Sizemore - he's always interesting to watch. Interesting idea behind this movie, but I think it could have played with the "memory" theme more. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Decent concept, poorly executed. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member An alright gangbanger movie that couldv'e been better, but I live by a bunch of gangbangers, so the acting was pretty authentic (considering most of them used to be G's anyways) The big down side is that it gets kinda boring throughout the middle part, when the dude is trying to find his brother's killer and whatnot... but watch the whole thing, cuz the ending's kinda cool. Ronnie Scheib Variety An explosive, nearly sociopathic perf by Tom Sizemore anchors tyro helmer Michael D. Olmos' Splinter Aug 18, 2007 Full Review Lael Loewenstein Los Angeles Times With its recycled themes and muddled storyline generating a cascade of unanswered questions, the film is more about style than substance. Rated: 2.5/5 Aug 16, 2007 Full Review James Wegg JWR But the shot du jour (heard and seen daily in every corner of our deadly globe) comes from the bereft mother; her family’s vocational tradition skids to an awful conclusion. Rated: 3.5/5 Jul 23, 2009 Full Review Michael Dequina TheMovieReport.com There's some promise in the central idea, but any audience investment it could have generated is done in by the performances either awkward or downright amateurish. Rated: 2/4 Sep 5, 2007 Full Review Brandon Judell New York Theatre Wire As for Olmos, he has achieved more than most could have with an often cliched screenplay ("Homies are getting killed every day. It's sad." "Those are our f***en homeboys back there. Why don't you show a little respect?").
