      Never Forever

      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Smartly constructed by writer-director Gina Kim and brought to life by a strong cast led by Vera Farmiga, Never Forever is an unexpectedly engaging melodrama.

Audience Member Good, if melodramatic, story, and Vera Farmiga can eat crackers in my bed anytime. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie is riveting from beginning to end. Although Vera Farmiga did an amazing job, Ha Jung Woo equally tore at my heart strings. No where in all of the reviews was Ha Jung Woo acknowledged which is shameful. It's as if, because the movie is an American-Korean collaboration, his work was a contribution versus a collaboration. Nevertheless, this was a well written movie with many twists and turns and is a worthwhile see. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review jon c another one of Vera Farmiga's early successes some people are willing to do anything to have a child Sophie and Andrew are happily married in NYC but she can't get pregnant so she overhears a man denied payment at a clinic and decides to have the child from him her husband is also in a bad spot after trying to commit suicide so she figures this might bring the happiness back into their lives yet he doubts it considering they failed repeatedly Sophie just wants people to stop hurting and this man she meets says in order to start over you have to lose everything first what starts as a business transaction turns into a passionate affair and now Sophie is torn between having this man's baby and staying loyal to her husband Farmiga's acting is skyrocketing here, I love the music so much with the violin solo pieces, and has that Lifetime movie feel to it most of the stuff you'd expect is in here but it addresses the many anxieties, hardships, and challenges to become a parent making the biggest mistakes to do so the ending is confusing though but everything else is delivered with such emotion and power Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Solid, but it never digs very deep with the characters. The characters never feel like more than types. Didn't buy Sophie falling in love with Jihah, she comes across as mostly just lonely and sad. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Strange; inconclusive. Big unexplained gaps. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member God, I could watch Vera Farmiga ALL day. The lady controls the screen. I can never keep my eyes off her. I'm referring to her acting, as well, which is the highlight of the film. The story is good but not delivered effectively. It strives more for melodrama than reality. Also, I wish we were given a stronger sense of the husband. We just see him do some a couple shitty things and complain a couple times. I'm complaining about that, but I will NEVER complain about Vera Farmiga or the score, which I greatly dig. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

      G. Allen Johnson San Francisco Chronicle Vera Farmiga is the best American actress you've never heard of. Rated: 3/4 Oct 18, 2008 Full Review Gary Goldstein Los Angeles Times If Adrian Lyne directed a racy Lifetime movie, then asked Danielle Steel what to call it, you'd pretty much have Never Forever, a sudsy chamber piece that's engrossing despite its many plot holes and contrivances. Rated: 3/5 Jun 20, 2008 Full Review Wesley Morris Boston Globe It's like a Lana Turner vehicle that's too meek to be Last Tango in Chinatown. Jul 18, 2008 Full Review Brian Orndorf BrianOrndorf.com For a film as gentle, meaningful, and tender as Never Forever, the picture can be forgiven such old-fashioned melodramatic extravagance to make a lasting impression.
