Critics Consensus

Dark Streets is a film noir musical that's too gimmicky for its own good.

Ben Kenigsberg Time Out Rated: 1/5 Nov 17, 2011 Full Review Frank Scheck Hollywood Reporter An unwieldy combination of film noir and film musical, Dark Streets doesn't manage to be effective on either level. Dec 22, 2008 Full Review Nathan Lee New York Times Dark Streets has atmosphere coming out its ears, but not much going on between them. steve d When the music works far better than any other aspect of your movie you are in trouble. Music is good. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Great performances, great jazz history, great dirty politicians. I really enjoyed this one. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Okay, the only reason it gets one star is because the performances are good. They'd be even better if they had a good script to work off of. It starts off slow and never picks up. For a moment in the middle of the film, it sounds like it's about to get interesting then...nothing. The songs are also good, but it's not enough to make a movie out of it. Too blah Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Great performances, great jazz history, great dirty politicians. I really enjoyed this one.
