Three strangers living in the same building -- shy, introverted Claudia (Amber Tamblyn), ladies' man Tommy (Armie Hammer) and doctor Karl (Aidan Gillen) -- wind up stuck in a malfunctioning elevator. Claudia is desperate to get out and back to the hospital to be near her dying grandmother, while Tommy wants to hit the beach with his girlfriend. Karl, on the other hand, is mentally unraveling, and it may be that the dangerous elevator is the least of Claudia and Tommy's problems.

Oleg S A good film with a clearly philosophical subtext, but poorly appreciated by the general public. Perhaps the film is not a thriller in the classical sense, since it does not cause a strong anxious expectation during the viewing, but something else is important in this picture. The plot unfolds in an elevator, where three complete strangers are stuck. The focus of further events is no longer aimed at trying to get out of the stuck elevator, but at getting to know the main characters. Tommy is a bully who wants to help his girlfriend escape from a tyrant father. Claudia is an orphan who has lived most of her life with her beloved grandmother. Karl is a father who loves his daughter and is worried about the loss of his wife. The longer the characters find themselves in a confined space, the stronger the hostility between them becomes, and the dark truth begins to come out. Each of them had their own life, their own reasons to get out of the elevator as soon as possible, but fate decreed otherwise. An absolutely random meeting of three people led to a dramatic epilogue. The philosophy of this film aims to evoke a fair question from the viewer, reflected in the final dialogue between the doctor and Claudia: - "How does this happen?" — "I was also looking for an answer, but after working here, I realized. There is no reason. Always an incident." Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/05/23 Full Review Audience Member Well acted despite the jumble of storylines. I hate the unnecessary camera shots of the elevator shaft for the most part. No great surprises other than the character of Aidan Gillen's flashback of him being a serial killer. He's being one is expected but the killing itself is gore enough that you'll be creeped out. At least it's not a complete waste of my time. The acting is superb, and the tensions run high. Excellent movie using flashbacks to tell the story of each character leading up to being stuck in the elevator. Great characters.
