What to Know

Critics Consensus

Tense, nicely shot, and uncommonly intelligent, The Crazies is a horror remake that, unusually, works.

Mediocre acting and a tired plotline ruins what's left of the movie. Go to Full Review

While it loses the charm of Romero's low-budget clunkiness, it is in all other regards superior. Go to Full Review

The aesthetic upgrade from the original makes this the rare instance in which a reboot is just as good, if not better, than the source material. Go to Full Review

It's not the most original film but Timothy Olyphant held this down as the lead. It's a harrowing story that has a dark ending, which hurts your desire to rewatch this but it's still solid. Go to Full Review

While this does have many beats that are similar to films in this genre, the leads were strong and there was some haunting imagery that makes this an interesting watch. The opening baseball scene is really effective. Go to Full Review

Mathew V. @theonlymtv 2d The Crazies is a tight, tense horror thriller with strong acting and constant suspense. The outbreak feels real, the pacing never drags, and it stays gripping the whole way through. More horror movies should take notes. See more Chris L @Christoph2000 3d Disclaimer - never saw the original. 'Uncommonly intelligent?' What on God's green earth are you talking about? A reasonably entertaining and utterly dumb gore-fest that stretches its exciting, if overdone (being a literal remake) premise to incredibly stupid lengths, this iteration of The Crazies is nasty, undercooked, time-killing escapism and nothing more. The largest issue it has is the sinking feeling of listlessness - I usually had no clue where the characters were going, and couldn't do much else besides shrug at the lazy screenwriting. Timothy Olyphant - impressive talent and clearly doing his best, as always, but the poor guy had little to work with. And why the hell is his character the one lad with any kind of immunity? Intense yet maddening, once your eyes return from the heavens I expect you'll be eager to revisit a classic zombie flick instead. Spare moments of nasty fun aside, it mostly fails to engage. Yes, I prefer actual zombies to infected homicidal maniacs. Pfft See more Julie C. @RT81239458 5d Keeps you on your toes, good suspense. I normally like them on the psychological vs gory side so zombie movies aren’t my thing but this was had a lot of interesting predicaments. A few moments when the characters made dumb decisions and split up instead of sticking together which broke the believability. Overall a good watch. See more Peter C. @peterc22 Jun 1 One of the most underrated horror movies. See more KerryWhite's S. @KerryWhite77 May 29 Rating: 5/10. 59/100 See more CaptCha N @RT98053171 May 4 One of those MUST SEE'S! I remember when this came out, The Sheriff: Timothy Olyphant was at the peak of his career. If he was in a movie or show, it became BETR. In this particular cinema, his co-star Joe Anderson the Deputy was phenomenal. A Walking Dead Shane like performance, this movie can be a cousin of the walking dead's first 2 seasons. Which were the only good seasons. Anyways, the film ends on a high note of a possible part 2. That obviously never happened and i don't think we ever saw Tim & Joe work together again after this. Shame, Not like his deputy would be around for the next wave of heii. There was a moment towards the end when it seems like Tim should have gotten infected. He used a knife that was already stuck in his hand to kill one of the infected, pulled it out the wrong way, the blade that went into the infected came right back through his hand. The writers did a good job to distract us from it. I guess they did want to leave a possible part2 alive. Salude See more Read all reviews
