James Greenberg The Hollywood Reporter Pushes the eccentric without creating believable characters. Feb 5, 2008 Full Review Simon Foster sbs.com.au It is a fitfully engaging, suitably bittersweet romance with some well-played scenes and an upbeat ending. Aug 9, 2010 Full Review David Nusair Reel Film Reviews ...surprisingly compelling... Rated: 2.5/4 Jun 25, 2010 Full Review Emanuel Levy EmanuelLevy.Com A movie of some touching and humorous moments, The Last Call is ultimately an unsuccessful effort to make a poignant dark comedy about an Angelino writer who makes a living by composing suicide notes. Steve D Far better than it should be given the cast. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/03/24 Full Review Audience Member I found this movie to be very well executed, despite my initial thoughts. I loved Wes's and Ray's characters, very well thought out, but kind of hoped for a little more depth to Winona's (the only girl in the movie). Overall, I give it a 4/5 Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member As close to a perfect Ken Movie as it gets. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member Love when comic actors take on darker and more serious roles. Ray Romano is terrific in this one. Predictable but engaging, and it packs a powerful emotional punch. In other words: Ray Romano made me cry. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member So-so. Was initially interesting but drifts from a point and fizzles out. Could have been profound, but ultimately wasn't. Good to see Winona Ryder, in a rare decent 2000s role for her (good to see Winona Ryder, full stop). Solid performance from her. Wes Bentley is a bit irritating in his role, but maybe it is because the longer the movie went on, the more I disliked his character. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Problem here? Uhh definitely not the acting; Winona Ryder and Wes Bently are very good in their roles, even Mr Romano too. The problem is the overall story and really the screenplay. The cinematography is distorted and there are too many plots to work with in too little time which makes the characters look really bad, NOT the fault of the acting. Every time I saw Ryder I was having a good time, granted I love Wino Forever. But overall this movie could have had something but it was just too complicated for this crew to do.
