Critics Consensus

Its leads are likeable, but Remember Me suffers from an overly maudlin script and a borderline offensive final twist.

Jacob B The funny thing about this film's infamous twist? There actually was some foreshadowing and it wasn't thrown in for the sake of shock value. This isn't some episode of Lost where they try to trick you into thinking this is set during a specific period of time. It's made clear right off the bat when this film's set. The whole thing probably wouldn't be called exploitative if it was fictitious but, on the other hand, people do still talk about this movie, if only to matter-of-factly spoil the twist and see how the Internet goes "I'm sorry, what?!" It doesn't help that the film ends shortly after when the fallout of these events would've made for a compelling epilogue. Note that this is from the same director as underrated Superman-themed biopic Hollywoodland. While the scenes with Adrien Brody aren't nearly as compelling as the George Reeves portions, they did a good job capturing the sense of melancholy with a nation, especially young children, mourning a popular actor. So why didn't Allen Coulter do something similar here? As for the rest of the film before the ending? Meh, it's standard romantic drama fare meant to appeal to the Nicholas Sparks crowd when those movies were still profitable, albeit with a darker tone, even before THAT ending. Robert Pattinson delivers a decent performance here as a more likeable character than that vampire simp and life is not complete without hearing Pierce Brosnan, in his Irish brogue, deliver a precision F-strike to his staff. If I'm being honest, the actual romantic drama is rather boring and Pattinson doesn't have a lot of chemistry with Emilie De Ravin. The family drama was more interesting with Pattinson being a good brother to his little sister and their daddy issues. The two leads are basically overshadowed by the side characters. Not just the girl playing the little sister but also the guy playing Pattinson's college roommate/best friend who's responsible for instigating the events of the film since he wants the two leads to date and then break up as a form of petty revenge against "MY BAY-BEE"'s cop dad. Are we sure Remember Me didn't take some inspiration from She's All That, of all that-I mean things? *sigh* I think I've made my point. I did the thing where I used the twist ending to watch and review this film for thematic purposes but made damn sure to talk about something other than that manipulative aspect. Because divorced from the controversy surrounding its denouement, this is an average film that works better as a drama about a dysfunctional family than it does a love story meant to appeal to Twilight and Nicholas Sparks fangirls. At least the star of the former film proved here that its not his acting that's the problem. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 09/17/25 Full Review Bren G Overly exploitative finale tops off an already gloomy feature. This is twilight without werewolves and vampires! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 09/07/25 Full Review J B Remember Me… or Remember Me “Not”. It drags straight into an explosively tragic ending. Quite literally.. 9/11. Which WILL BE remembered. Unlike the Film. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 09/01/25 Full Review Alain E Nice cinematography, some well known actors in the service of a movie that is not going anywhere. The opening scene is very strong. Then everything starts going downhill fast. A police officer is called to identify his wife who was brutally killed at a metro station. Expressionless he raises the sheet that covers the body and looks at her for a few seconds. Then we realize that all this time the little girl that was with her at the moment of her death is still there. She picks her up and departs. The next few scenes similarly don’t ring plausible. The last thing I watched, two guys pick up two girls at a bar and they leave. Outside, in a dark deserted street there is a fight going on and just like that, they decide to participate. Who thought any of these is something that can happen in reality? Rated 1 out of 5 stars 08/28/25 Full Review Arunendu B The sentiments were there, but it's overwritten. And just for the sake of it, the movie ends with the grand tragedy. It could've been better, mostly good and a few bad Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/01/25 Full Review Sierra S This was the first movie I've watched with Robert Pattinson since his post Twilight days, and I must say it was better than expected. He has matured as an actor, though he pullling off the broody introvert seems to be a specialty of his. Also, maybe it was just me, but I caught a few easter eggs in the dialog that made me smile. Pierce Brosnon, who I really like, plays a supporting role. And as always, he is exceptional. **TISSUE WARNING** I don't want to give any spoilers away, but the ending truly caught me off guard. Even though this isnt a traditional tear jerker, you might want a few tissues close by. The story itself while fairly cliché, is well executed. Broken families with continued conflicts, doting big brother, distant father, comedic side kick, boy meet girl and their lives start to change, etc... Personal intricacies are sprinkled into the story as litte bread crumbs adding to the continuation of the story. It all seems to head in the dirction of the expected satisfying ending. And that's all I have to say about that. Want the rest of the story, or really, the actual whole story? Watch the movie. It is worth the 2 hours.
