Ahmad L Nostalgic and great storytelling with emotions flailing for those who truly understand what going on during these times with families in the military. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie is a beautiful, realistic story of human interaction between family, friends and a new relationship. It is not often we witness a portrayal of emotions from a young military man who deals with his 96 hours of leave with such intensity. I recommend this movie very highly. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Nick Cannon, thumbs up!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Cannon and O'Leary had great performances. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member must watch! loved the romance and acting. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member I wish I could say I brought myself to sit through all of this because I could see the potential, but it was so unbelievably slow-moving I just couldn't stand it after the first half. Maybe I'll revisit it eventually, but I definitely could not take it today. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Duane Byrge Hollywood Reporter Stirringly told, American Son dramatizes a harsh social reality and tributes this nation's fighting force. Jan 24, 2008 Full Review Justin Chang Variety This is conventional dramatic material played with an occasionally heavy hand, but sculpted with care and quiet assurance by helmer Neil Abramson. Jan 22, 2008 Full Review David Thomas Filmcritic.com ends up being one of the strongest entries in the growing list of films about Iraq even though, ultimately, it probably doesn't belong on that list at all. Rated: 4/5 Sep 20, 2009 Full Review Brian Webster Apollo Guide The sort of movie that folks who are addicted to a Tom Cruise-style action sequence every three minutes might dismiss as one in which "nothing happens." Rated: 74/100 Sep 8, 2009 Full Review Ryan Cracknell Movie Views Several anti-war films have come along in the past couple of years calling out the war in Iraq. They've covered various conspiracies, big personalities and the front lines. But, perhaps, none have been as human as Neil Abramson's American Son. Aug 29, 2009 Full Review Bill Gibron PopMatters American Son is one of the few modern takes on the material that never once apologizes for its warrior-in-waiting.
