Audience Member Social commentary and romance at a perfect balance. A shame that it was remade into a pathetic over the top soap opera starring Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Bimal Roy's Devdas is gorgeous. Not so much visually (well, maybe I should see it again--there are a few shots here, there) as it is emotionally, a real tearjerker. It's like a parody of Wuthering Heights, only the characters so fully capture the spirit of Bronte they constitute a more faithful adaptation than some of the movies that actually have the novel's name on the title page.
