Shubhra Gupta The Indian Express Dilip Kumar's Devdas became a palimpsest for self-obsessed young lovers who found it easier to embrace failure, than to stand up and be counted. Aug 16, 2021 Full Review Siddhant Adlakha New York Times Few performances feel as if they run the entire gamut of human emotion. The first time Devdas takes a drink, [Dilip] Kumar runs that gamut in a single scene. Jul 13, 2021 Full Review Read all reviews

Leaburn O Rated by Empire magazine as one of the top 100 foreign language films of all time, so I found myself digging about to find a copy to watch. It is better than the vast majority of Bollywood films but that bar is preposterously low. It is an overlong, overwrought, melancholic piece of melodrama with unnecessary and irritating songs. I was counting down the minutes until it ended. The main protagonist whips the love of his life to scar her so she remembers him. She’s forever grateful for this act. I mean honestly…. I’m done with Bollywood. It churns out so much dross. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 11/19/24 Full Review Audience Member Social commentary and romance at a perfect balance. A shame that it was remade into a pathetic over the top soap opera starring Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Bimal Roy's Devdas is gorgeous. Not so much visually (well, maybe I should see it again--there are a few shots here, there) as it is emotionally, a real tearjerker. It's like a parody of Wuthering Heights, only the characters so fully capture the spirit of Bronte they constitute a more faithful adaptation than some of the movies that actually have the novel's name on the title page. Lovely film. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Il primo "Devdas" che ho visto e chi mi ha totalmente affascinato. Grande Dilip Kumar.
