Justin M. This is about as good as a 2000s Steven Seagal movie could be. He’s at his waddling, soft speaking best here. He’s not too far where is laughable, but just fat enough where he can “move” around looking like a tank. The story is typical guy gets in the middle of a gang war because of a beautiful woman. Siding with the Russians against some evil cops and Chinese gangsters. The script is awful, but it’s unwatchable awful. It’s just standard DTV action storytelling. The action is mostly Seagal, with minimal (still noticeable) stuntmen and stand-ins. There’s a an especially egregious stand-in moment at the end of the film where it just shoots the back of Seagal’s character flipping a switch. That was really the only laughably bad moment. Oh and the very end when he cranks out his “charming” blaccent after landing the 20 something year old female lead. When the whole 3rd act builds to the young Russian kid getting with the beautiful lady. Back to the action. A lot of Seagal doing his aikido is choppy and super up close. Was it to cover up Seagal? Was it just following the Bourne trend? Who’s to say? It’s not completely distracting or awful. I mean you can even see Seagal performing it a good amount. The shoot outs are good and properly squibby and bloody. I mean that’s what we come to watch and it does it well. I know Keoni Waxman gets a bad rap. But I’ve always thought his early Seagal DTV stuff was solid like The Keeper and Maximum Conviction. A Dangerous Man is no different, I had a good time watching it, it’s not bottom tier Seagal, just middle of the pack. It’s definitely a decent action flick with a still committed enough Seagal. Watching this took me back to almost 15 years ago. With 15 year old me just getting into movies, action movies in particular. And watching any action movie I could get my hands on. I always enjoyed Seagal more than his contemporaries like Lundgren and Van Damme. Maybe not as much now, but back then I did. I wouldn’t be the movie fan I am today without Seagal and the boys and their DTV movies. I’ll always support these kind of movies. They’re my comfort movies. En effet, Steven enchaîne la castagne (presque sans doublure) et les fusillades dans le premier acte de Dangerous Man. Cependant, la deuxième collaboration Keoni Waxman - Steven Seagal se termine comme la première : Seagal disparaît de l'écran au profit de Terry Chen et Byron Mann (qui ne se batte malheureusement qu'à la dernière bobine) et on doit se taper 45 minutes de discussions interminables et incompréhensibles, qui ne se finissent que par une énorme fusillade très mal filmée de près de 20 minutes et qui tourne très vite à vide. C'est dommage car on sent un potentiel certain, mais le cachalot aïkidoka retombe vite dans ses travers. Bien sûr, A Dangerous Man est infiniment supérieur à 90% de sa filmo DTV, mais ce n'est toujours pas le retour pour un Seagal un peu moins fatigué qu'à l'accoutumée/.
