See more Nick L @NotTrevorLawrence Jul 9 I wanted to love this film, but yikes! The fact that its rating is so high tells me the cast/crew all rated it instead of actual viewers. As both a historian and a TV producer, its a bad film on multiple fronts. They probably blew the budget on Kevin Spacey's minor role and left no money for department heads to actually do a good job. The lighting is horrendous, dialogue is nonsense, and the cinematography is stylistically all over the place. The set and costuming seems like zero attempt at historical research was done. Kevin Spacey has a cartoonish southern accent that did not even exist yet in 1780. He looks more like a poorly dressed Confederate soldier than someone in the 1700s. His hat is so historically inaccurate that its distracting. It looks like a cheap leather cowboy had from a truck stop gas station. From both a historical and technical filmmaking standpoint, its just a bad film. I feel bad even leaving a negative review, but it was so awful that I needed to say something. It is a well-executed historical thriller that proves powerful stories do not always require massive battlefields sometimes the most memorable struggles take place in the hearts of ordinary people.
