This year’s nominated short films are a disappointing batch with a few gems mixed in. The topical ones are a bit boring while the most interesting are the least political, a rarity in short films.

Some of them, namely Wes Anderson’s “The Wonderful World of Henry Sugar” and the glorious “The Last Repair Shop” (both favorites to win), could hold their own if tossed in the ring with their heavyweight counterparts in the feature film race.

Thought this was the strongest shorts category, providing some context to issues of immigration, border wars, book banning, wealth inequity & music education in short cinema art. They were all illuminating and important as merrily we roll along. Perfect!
