A European vacation was intended to repair the tattered relationship between American Jack (Adam Goldberg) and French native Marion (Julie Delpy). But, by the time they arrive in Paris to visit Marion's family, it is clear the trip is not going well. The city brings out aspects of Marion that only alienate neurotic Jack further, from her in-your-face politics to her former boyfriends, who surface in every cafe. Thus the most romantic city in the world could mean the end of the couple's romance.

KOOKLA C Funny but got dull because it was the same silly jokes and nothing really happens. It's cute but I could only sit thru half before becoming super bored. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 11/16/24 Full Review isla s This is a serious cringe comedy - a little bit like 'Meet the Parents' only more upper middle class and set in France, rather than the US. I couldn't not feel sorry for Jack, played by Adam Goldberg. He plays the socially awkward type very well and given he isn't fluent in French, its not hard to see why he'd feel a little uncomfortable (a 'fish out of water' type) given the situation. The series of events that happen are sometimes surprising, sometimes shocking and often cringe or laughter enducing. There's narration provided by Julie Delpy, who plays Marion and also directs this film. Not a bad film to work so much on, good for her I say. I would definitely recommend this film, yes. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Enjoyable romantic comedy despite the distraction of many hand held camera angles. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member The movie seemed promising at first. An unmarried couple consisting of a hypochondriac American man and a blond French woman travel from New York to Europe on vacation with the idea of reviving their failing relationship. Having first gone to Venice, Italy, they then travel to Paris to meet her parents and sister. Problem is, when walking through Paris, the girlfriend meets up with a lot of her old paramours, which displeases the boyfriend. I was expecting a romantic comedy or farce, but while there were a few laughs, overall the movie was stilted and unconvincing and we didn't finish. The minor characters were little better than stereotypes, but worst of all was the couple, who spent so much time arguing and fighting that it was impossible to believe they even liked, let alone loved, each other, or could even stand each other's presence. They boyfriend's overdone hypochondria and girlfriend's nonstop chattering was too much even if this film had been intended as a farce. It may be a French film, but the fact that I've seen French reviewers who also disliked this movie says plenty. Spend no time with this movie. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Just when you think you have the plot figured out it will throw a curveball keeping things fresh; great chemistry from Delpy and Goldberg; funny if you put the plot of this movie and the characters in the same universe as the similar-ish BEFORE trilogy Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member I wasn't expecting much out of this and although it had a few funny parts, the constant references to sex and the slow pace was/were a huge turnoff.
