In 480 B.C. a state of war exists between Persia, led by King Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro), and Greece. At the Battle of Thermopylae, Leonidas (Gerard Butler), king of the Greek city state of Sparta, leads his badly outnumbered warriors against the massive Persian army. This depersonalizes the major players in the battle between the Spartans and the Persians to such a degree that one ends up feeling more sympathy for the shields that end up receiving the brunt of the sword blows and arrow piercings.

300 is pure cinematic spectacle. It does not try to be historically accurate, it embraces the feel of a graphic novel, and that's exactly what makes it so memorable. The slow-motion action, striking visuals, and Gerard Butler's commanding performance make every battle feel larger than life. The story is simple, but its themes of courage, sacrifice, and defiance hit hard. It's loud, over-the-top, and unapologetically dramatic, and that's precisely why it remains one of the most iconic action films of its era.

This movie is worth a watch. The first to establish in Hollywood history a world completely built on a soundstage. Gerard butler’s performance is highly memorable with one liners still talked about today. Gotta see it on as big a screen you got. But at least once.
