Walter V. Addiego San Francisco Chronicle Though it gains traction toward the end, viewers may finally feel puzzled or indifferent. You expect a bit more from the end of the world. Rated: 2/4 Apr 20, 2012 Full Review Scott Tobias NPR Rehashing old arguments in the hours before certain death is a tedious waste of time - theirs, and ours. Mar 23, 2012 Full Review Stephanie Zacharek Movieline Watching the excessively craggy Dafoe and the excessively nubile Leigh roll around on their pre-Apocalyptic mattress was certainly good for a giggle. Rated: 6.5/10 Mar 23, 2012 Full Review D.M. Palmer Vague Visages The knowledge of this loss permits the artist to arrive at a truer recognition of self, to cast off all previous encumbrances and allow the fatalistic spirit to become a crucible, forging fresh perspectives... Nov 9, 2023 Full Review Mitchell Beaupre Paste Magazine Ferrara doesn’t hide from death in his films—quite the opposite, clearly. Yet you also can’t say that his work feels hopeless, nor pessimistic. Rated: 9/10 Sep 23, 2022 Full Review Kathi Maio The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction I'm not quite sure when 4:44 moves from serious to silly, but for me it was early on. Lúcio Leonardo P Yet another different way of approaching the end of the world, without aliens, explosions or natural catastrophes. The film focuses on the final moments of a couple and the result is: monotonous, boring, sleepy, bad, bad and bad... I think they tried to show the dilemmas that the relationship tries to resolve, but I realized that it's about the decisions that the character that William Dafoe plays, took on his life and the fear of dying without resolving them. The actor himself can't handle making the film, as his performance is far from the best. And besides, 90% of the film is filmed in an apartment and its balcony, the other 10% is when Dafoe goes on a getaway... And not only is the film disastrous, the trailer is also a mess, except for the soundtrack Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/25/24 Full Review Audience Member This is really bad. It's so boring and slow paced. I was hoping they would change it to 2:22 so it could be over sooner. What a piece of dreck this is. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Simply... a real stiff of a movie. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member Two lovers (Willem Dafoe, Shanyn Leigh) immerse themselves in sex, art and other activities after word breaks that the world will end by the next morning. Not a very engaging movie. Most of the characters are not doing anything worth watching. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review adam b A weird experiment film that I think didn't go as well as intended . Still, quite the watch Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member A uniquely personal apocalypse flick. Defoe is great, co-star is so-so. Couple interesting scenarios, but never truly engaging or worthwhile. Ending is a bust. Not even a rental. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Read all reviews
