      Critics Consensus

An actor's movie with a strong cast, 44 Inch Chest can't quite redeem its static plotting and tonal shifts.

Jack t 44 Inch Chest, really funny comedy drama. That had me burst out laughing because there are a lot of scenes that made me laugh. One is that Ray Winstone saying to the French waiter that I bet she's never farted in front of you and second that had me laughing in tears is that he said "And you're smiling like fxxk, because you know it's gonna please her." Now I know what you thinking, it's not like somebody's cutting someone's ear off, just like in Reservoir Dogs. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Boring and confusing! Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Not much of a story going on and it's boringly repetitive. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member disappointing, very thin script all been done before not a patch on reservoir dogs...... Joe Williams St. Louis Post-Dispatch With violence on the menu, it's a guilty pleasure to watch these stage-trained hambones unleash a rapid-fire roundelay of righteous indignation. Rated: 3/4 Feb 25, 2010 Full Review John Hartl Seattle Times The frequently profane dialogue suggests David Mamet on an off-night (so does Malcolm Venville's claustrophobia-inducing direction), though the first-rate cast works hard. Rated: 2.5/4 Feb 11, 2010 Full Review Walter V. Addiego San Francisco Chronicle It's an interesting spectacle, but not enough to carry a movie. Rated: 2/4 Feb 4, 2010 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review 44 Inch Chest is worth seeing for the acting alone. But no matter how well this impressive cast handles the expertly-written dialogue from Mellis and Scinto, they can’t make up for the underwhelming outcome of the story. Rated: 2.5/4 Aug 22, 2023 Full Review John Gholson Cinematical A deliberately stagy rumination on the price of revenge. Feb 10, 2012 Full Review David Nusair Reel Film Reviews ...an uneven yet engrossing drama that benefits substantially from the efforts of its unusually impressive roster of performers.
