Alida S I loved this movie. The acting by the 2 leading ladies is soooo good, they moved me to tears and laughter when warranted. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/19/24 Full Review Honey R Fabulous movie. We all need to know about incidents that change history, we tend to forget all humans need help but also have rights to be themselves. Great acting, great story, great direction and everything. I am thankful that the real life lady did make that one phone call that changed the course of history by giving rights to people with mental issues. Hence give them more respect and treat them as equals. Great movie! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/14/24 Full Review Delilah Such an emotionally impacting movie. Helena Bonham Carter played the part of Eleanor Riese so well, that it seemed like she was a completely different person from her real life self. The bond between the lawyer and Eleanor was so emotional that the ending made me cry. I absolutely loved how the characters were portrayed, and it's definitely a great movie to watch. Michael O'Sullivan Washington Post Somehow, these two difficult people are easy to watch, at least on the screen. They are honest to a fault, which is, in the end, their charm. Rated: 2.5/4 Nov 28, 2018 Full Review Gary Goldstein Los Angeles Times The wild-haired Carter has the flashier role and, although she digs into it with gusto, she's all over the emotional map. Nov 13, 2018 Full Review Dennis Harvey Variety Fails to elicit memorable work from any of its principal collaborators. Sep 9, 2017 Full Review Todd Jorgenson Cinemalogue Considering the ramifications of its true-life story, this earnest legal melodrama about fighting the system never achieves the necessary urgency or poignancy. Nov 17, 2018 Full Review Prairie Miller WBAI Radio Though 55 Steps, well, side-steps the alarming political issues, with the doctors in question as cover for the true medical/pharmaceutical industrial complex villains, at its core this film transcends class as a remarkable female bonding story. Nov 8, 2018 Full Review David Nusair Reel Film Reviews It's a relatively interesting story that's given the movie-of-the-week treatment by director Bille August...
