Brian Tallerico RogerEbert.com Cognetti’s skill with found footage does him no favors here, as this flick is laden with awful dialogue, worse performances, dumb plotting, and a truly inane ending. Anthony S I enjoyed the setting and vibe of this movie. Nothing about it is groundbreaking but I never had the I can't wait until this is over feeling. The story kept me interested in where they were going with it. The acting isnt great but that didnt bother me. It's also not scary which might be a dealbreaker for some. 6.5 or 7/10 seems right. Its worth a watch. Especially if youre a big fan of horror and not overly picky. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/25/25 Full Review Audience Member This is a really good, bad movie. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 08/18/25 Full Review Audience Member Whilst not as good as the hell house series of films that has made stephen a house hold name, well within my house anyway 😀, it is still quite good and an opening for yet another series of films that I look forward to watching. You kept this one quiet mr Cognetti. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/12/25 Full Review IrateTyrant C A departure from HELL HOUSE LLC that is actually not bad A lot of people have been saying this movie is a step down for director Stephen Cognetti. I beg to differ. What really detracts from it is the performance of Chuck (Joe Falcone), which is wooden and very borderline B-grade. However, the two lead actresses are an eye-full onscreen with great presence. Back-to-back from Carmichael Manor is Darin F Earl as Luke, who is surprisingly good and lends an empathy to an otherwise unsympathetically distant character. Besides the acting, what's really good about this is the timeline of the narrative, which jumps backward a few times to retell the story from a different perspective. This gives the twists in the story much more oomph. The jumpscares aren't as good as the Hell House LLC series, but they are entertaining. The atmosphere is pretty good when it's not bogged down by the acting. As the quote at the beginning of the movie indicates, this one deals with grief a lot more than Cognetti's Hell House series, and he deals with it with the long end of the stick, for sure. The emotional context of the movie, though, brings you into the story, rather than pushes you out, as the non-linear storyline pulls you through the previous experiences of the characters very well. Not a great movie, but definitely a pretty good one. Cognetti wrote me on Facebook about a decade ago, shortly after the first Hell House came out and I tried to fanmail him. He encouraged me to write reviews of his movies and spread the word. I deleted the Facebook account long ago, so I don't have our exchange saved anywhere. But it's nice to know even a now big-name director still shows support to his grassroots origins. Looking forward to the fifth Hell House! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/08/25 Full Review Dantez G. This film delivers some really good scares. But the dialogue was pretty bad and the acting was rubbish. The different character overview was pretty neat. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/04/25 Full Review Horror fan 4 Love that the movie is told through different character experiences and especially loved the ending.
