Andrei D The premise is budget Contact but does not find a way to do something interesting with it Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 11/25/24 Full Review Matthew B A research unit in Britain picks up a mysterious signal from the Andromeda galaxy. Maverick scientist John Fleming (Tom Hardy) translates the signal as a blueprint to build a computer with an organic component. The military and scientists eagerly develop the computer and pass knowledge onto the aliens about humanity, but Fleming becomes increasingly alarmed. What is the reason for the alien interest in us? In 2000, the BBC used its arts channel BBC4 to create a remake of a classic 1950s teleseries, where the original show has been lost. The show had originally been episodic, but due to its limited appeal the remake was sadly made into a one-off condensed drama that sought to update the story for our own age while capturing the essence of the original series. For giving me the chance to finally view the story in a visual form, I am immensely grateful. This was an accomplished TV drama that explored intelligent ideas. Sadly the programme was not widely-viewed, and its rating on the Internet Movie Database Search is poor. Perhaps people who had seen the original teleserie were disappointed with the changes. The drama is short on exciting scenes, with everything explained through dialogue. As a result, a story in which several people die, an alien invasion is (possibly) planned, and a room is set on fire does not stir the blood. A for Andromeda is best enjoyed by people who are happy with stories that develop slowly through dialogue, and perhaps that is why I like it so much. I wrote a fuller review (which may contain spoilers) on my blog page if anyone is interested in hearing more of my views (https://themoviescreenscene.wordpress.com/2018/08/11/a-for-andromeda-2006/) Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/31/23 Full Review Audience Member This is a pretty solid and convincing piece of that rare beast that is genuine scifi. Performances and production values are well up to scratch though there is a slight whiff of ham occurring. It generally entertained and intrigued me. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Audience Member The second of the BBCs contemporary remakes of classic 50s Sci-Fi series...and just as bad as the first! Despite being well made and acted it was about as exciting as a colonoscopy, well worth avoiding. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Read all reviews
