Teddy B One of the definitive animated adaptations of the immortal novella, Richard William's intrinsically meticulous eye for animation bursts through in every frame of this classic that also boasts the legendarily underrated Alastair Sim reprising his role as Ebenezer Scrooge from the 1951 live-action classic. Altogether, this short is a true masterwork from Richard Williams and definitely deserved the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 12/27/23 Full Review Tim O Solid 25min express-speed rendering of the tale, with Allistair Simms reprising the role (from his 1953 film). Very evocative animation style, incredibly dark depiction. Produced by the amazing Chuck Jones (Looney Tunes, various Dr. Suess specials etc, etc.). Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/18/23 Full Review jacob b While the 25-minute-long runtime results in very obvious cases of compression, Richard Williams' take on A Christmas Carol is a surreal, well-animated, sad and even low-key scary adaptation of the Charles Dickens story without a "definitive" version. If I saw this when I was younger or if I lived in the early '70s, I'd probably feel more passionate about this version but hey, it's still a strong, even underrated, Oscar-winning special. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Alec B Rudimentary animation, even for 1971 -- though this brief, rather lifeless version did at least manage to stick close to its source material. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 12/18/22 Full Review bill t Very very good animated version of the classic here. Almost too good. It did have some amazing animation in it, and I was really caught up in it, but this film feels way too rushed in it's conclusion. A lot more time would have helped. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member in my opinion the best Christmas Carol ever. Alistair simm was priceless as scrooge.
