It’s as if director Warren Fischer has forgotten to write jokes in his script. No one says anything remotely humorous; instead there’s just a parade of lowest-common-denominator gags... Go to Full Review

We watch the characters scampering around, going through the motions in a familiar way, but the laughs are few and far between, the tension that one would expect of a farce curiously absent. Go to Full Review

A Family Affair has the heart but could do with a few more laughs though what humour is here is funny. Go to Full Review

Starring British comedian Joe Wilkinson, A Family Affair has a few funny moments, but they don't make up for the weak plot & characters. Go to Full Review

A Family Affair is the culmination of decades of absurdist comedy, and its execution is a ridiculous set of events that lacks explosive consequences but is overflowing with delicious drama. Go to Full Review

Barry W Jul 11 As a big fan of Joe Wilkinson, I had high hopes for this movie, but it just failed to pay off any of the set ups in anything close to a satisfying way. Any tension created in the set up was lost far too quickly after. There was much misunderstanding, but no resultant drama or comedy. I don't recall laughing once. The scenario could have led to much farce, but instead just delivered nonsense instead. The acting was good, but the script they had to perform was terrible. See more James W Apr 9 Could only watch 15 mins before i had to turn it off. Not funny. Just a bit boring. Acting is poor too. See more Shelby P 07/07/2024 Joey King was the only bit of com in this rom-com for me. No chemistry between efron and kidman. The overdone plastic surgery and fillers left me more distracted than able to even concentrate on the story line sadly. Efron apparently had major reconstructive jaw surgery due to an accident a few years ago, but kidman looked sickly with stringy hair. It was hard to watch. See more Toby H 07/05/2024 This makes me cringe for Nicole Kidman and Kathy Bates. I suppose this movie will appeal to undiscriminating prepubescents and diehard Zac Efron fans (basically, think of anyone whose bedroom has posters of both Justin Bieber and unicorns on display); but it will be a disappointment for Nicole Kidman fans. In the first 5 minutes I'd already realized that the direction was amateurish, the editing was clumsy, and the juvenile writing was on par with a bad after-school special. But I held on long enough for Ms. Kidman to make her entrance. After she spoke I instantly realized that she wasn't actually going to be able to elevate the sophomoric material (truly, "sophomoric" is too kind, but I don't believe "freshmanic" is actually a word). Yet I still couldn't look away. It's the lure of the abominable. It's like trying to look away from a train wreck, but a train wreck would actually add much needed production value to this film. I'd say A Family Affair is like a Hallmark movie, but I'm afraid Hallmark would sue me for libel. Let's put it this way: The writer/director "treats" us to a musical montage in which Efron and Kidman dance around and giggle and try on different colorful costumes and hats. Say... no... more. See more Kim H 07/01/2024 this is the 2nd movie I have watched with Zac Efron. He is just a pretty boy with very limited acting skills. Just a terrible script, poorly acted and poorly directed. Terrible. See more Read all reviews
