      Audience Member i loved this as a kid and i still love it to this day Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member The lurid title isn't much of an improvement over the name of Robert Houston's original novel ('Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday') but it at least hints at the occasionally overwrought plotting in this Appalachian thriller, a murder/hostage drama set in rural West Virginia circa 1943. Some careful attention to period flavor helps give the film a definite sense of time and place, not that it matters after ignorant drifter Peter Weller kills a wicked mill foreman and holds his victim's long-suffering wife captive for three days. The set-up is dramatically sound, but every shred of credibility gets tossed out the window in the second act: Kathy Baker begins to sympathize with her captor; they sleep together; he's then revealed to be a homicidal maniac, and so forth. Perhaps it's all meant to be a parable of one woman's liberation out from under male authority, but the subtext is too confused for the film to work as anything deeper than a routine, violent psychodrama. In the end what might have been a real sleeper winds up as just another corpse. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member This is an unheard of movie by many. Don't let that scare you as it turns into one hell of a movie that?s for sure. Setting is West Virginia, back in the forties. A Boss who is running around on his wife turns up murdered, beaten with an ax on his own property, A stranger shows up at the door of the surviving wife, so starts our Drama / Mystery. Definite worth 4 stars. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member My wife wasn’t a bad woman, just a woman Maggie Gresham is married to a violent and terrible man who cheats on her and treats her like dirt. Her marriage was arranged by her brother but she loves her husband and takes care of their two children. One day she walks to her outhouse and finds her husband strung upside down and brutally murdered. Later that day a man appears from the woods and admits to killing her husband because her husband slept with his wife and murdered his family. Will Maggie believe the man’s story or turn the killer over to the authorities? “I never hurt nothing I didn’t have to.” David Saperstein, director of Beyond the Stars and the writer of the scripts for Cocoon 1 & 2 and A Christmas Visitor, directs A Killing Affair. The storyline for this film was entertaining despite not being particularly original. Saperstein did an excellent job of using the landscape and outside conditions (i.e. the dogs) to make the film intense and fascinating. The acting was above average and the cast included Peter Weller, Kathy Baker, John Glover, and Bill Smitrovich. “Until death do they part.” A Killing Affair was part of a Thriller DVD box set I received for Christmas from my father. This movie had several fascinating elements. It was hard to tell if the murderer was telling the truth throughout the movie and it is hard to imagine a pack of dogs terrorizing a neighborhood. Nevertheless, both variables were intriguing and well delivered.
