Odie Henderson RogerEbert.com "A Life In Dirty Movies" hooks you with its title, then surprises by supplementing its salacious material with a charming look at the couple who made those dirty movies. Audience Member This film was a bittersweet viewing, as the idea of this couple who had a great run in the heyday of softcore sexy films trying to get the band back together and finance a final movie is very intriguing, as we get to see a nice overview of their career as filmmakers. The flip side of that is naturally that they were edged out as the material became more hardcore, and now they find themselves more like quaint relics of a bygone era. Still, worth a look to fans of the golden age of smut, or those with a historical curiosity about how we got into the x-rated material that we can now casually enjoy. Recommended. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member touching biography of the life of unique auteurs Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member A fascinating look at Joe Sarnos, the director best known for his erotic films of the 60s and 70s which were far less about sex and far more about eroticism, two very different things. Wiktor Ericsson's documentary tracks Sarnos and his relationship with his wife Peggy, once an actress herself, the old days of movie making and Sarnos' attempt to make one last film. Very entertaining and great spotlight on a filmmaker who is well known in some circles but largely unknown in mainstream culture - a real shame because he was a bit of a trailblazer and his films really come across as more art than porn.
