True French historians should simply relax and enjoy a film that takes us on a beautifully photographed cinematic romp into a past as it likely SHOULD have been. Go to Full Review

"A Little Chaos" wants us to be fascinated by a feminist who never was, then undermines her by casting an approving eye on the steamy affair she begins with her boss. Go to Full Review

It's difficult to conjure... excitement for a mess like "A Little Chaos," a lazy and off-puttingly anachronistic feminist fantasy about an 18th-century female landscape designer who finds love while creating... one of the grandest spaces in Versailles. Go to Full Review

The topic is lightweight and the script is a bit directionless, but the superb cast keep things engaging as does Peter Gregson's beautiful score. Go to Full Review

With a generous offering of pomp elsewhere, Rickman does manage to avoid the usual overstatements most actor-directors weigh their films down with, sculpting a project that's stately and modest, but precious little besides. Go to Full Review

Alec B 12/13/2023 Anything remotely resembling wit would have been nice, especially considering it's already a made-up story. To waste WInslet's considerable talents on something so boring is unforgivable. See more Matt W 09/02/2023 Brilliantly done - great action and acting by Kate Winslow See more 09/14/2022 I just love this movie, the costumes, the story, Matthias, Kate, Alan, Stanley and everyone else. For me a beautiful film. See more venetia a 10/23/2021 This moving is engaging and delightful. I've watched it at least five times and enjoyed it each time. I love a good romantic time period piece, and, of course, Kate Winslet always delights. It might be a little slow for some, but if you like these kind of movies, the pace won't bother you. Our heroines affair could be problematic without the understanding of her lovers prior marital arrangement. So for that reason, and for this time period it's set in, her love story is acceptable. See more 08/29/2021 Top notch cast led by Kate Winslet who's hired on by landscape architect Andre LeNotre (Matthias Schoenaerts) to design one of the gardens at Versaille. Alan Rickman is delightful as Louis XIV as is Stanley Tucci as his brother. Rickman also directed and had a hand in the writing of this pleasant enough but pointless historical fantasy. I wish Netflix would get hold of Ken Russell's "The Devils" for some perspective. See more 03/25/2021 I can't stand a period dramas where it feels like the actors are wearing costumes trying their hardest to fit into a different century. The only reason I made it through this movie was because of Alan Rickman's purely enjoyable performance as King Louis XIV. If you love Alan Rickman and picturesque landscapes watch this. But, I wouldn't recommend this movie to a friend. See more Read all reviews
