John DeFore Hollywood Reporter Doc captures the superficial appeal of designer's work but offers nothing deeper. Nov 2, 2012 Full Review Farran Smith Nehme New York Post Showing the personal toll that produces a star in any field could be a soggy, predictable drag, but the documentary "A Man's Story" never slides into easy sentiment or bromides. Rated: 3.5/4 Nov 2, 2012 Full Review Nicolas Rapold New York Times Vonicos ... misses an opportunity to make a feature-length documentary that takes the full measure of his subject's work. Rated: 2/5 Nov 1, 2012 Full Review Isabel Stevens ViewLondon Hanging out with Ozwald Boateng for 98 minutes feels far too long as he is rarely probes about either himself or his profession, and as a result his film often resembles a drawn-out reality TV show. Rated: 2/5 Aug 27, 2018 Full Review Joseph Walsh CineVue An honest and well-structured documentary - truly engrossing viewing, whether you're aware of Boateng's work or not. Rated: 4/5 Aug 24, 2018 Full Review David Noh Film Journal International Ozwald Boateng may be the only designer who is more compellingly attractive than any of his models, and this less-than-deep documentary fully captures his undeniable charisma. Audience Member COMPELLED TO WRITE - THIS FILM IS DA BOMB - THE CRITICS ARE TOTAL BUNCH OF PAMPERED WHITE MEN AND OR JERKS. THIS DOC ROCKS. OZWALD BOATENG A STAR OF LIFE AND THIS MOVIE HAS CHANGED MY UNIVERSE. SEE THIS MOVIE SEE THIS MOVIE SEE THIS MOVIE. RR Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member BRILLIANT - A Man's Story is a study in the process of organic, immersive documentary-making. The culmination of over a decade of work, and the product of a slow-burning deep friendship, the film raises questions of objectivity and how footage can be used or misused to reshape a subject or story. It is always going to be difficult to remove the filmmaker from the film. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member It is very interesting and exciting work that watches like a scripted movie, yet it is a documentary that shows insides of the industry and the life of "a man" on the example of talented British designer, Ozwald Boateng. What make it different from the other documentaries? Is that we are able to witness the ups and downs in life of Ozwald Boateng for the period of 12 years(Wow! Long time), which shows the dynamic of personal and professional journey through that period of time! Well done to director, Varon Bonicos, who was able to capture the significant moments to create this masterpiece! Must See for everyone, especially men, as it may help to look at the bigger picture of life, business, love and evaluate and prioritise things in life. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Beautifully crafted documentary about a hard working man. Structure very fast and hypnotic, film schools finest. Only thing was oswald didn't age much so the years seem a bit too busy, but thumbs up.
