Charlotte O'Sullivan London Evening Standard It's testament to the non-scariness of A Night in the Woods that it makes you want to go out and buy a tent. Rated: 2/5 Sep 7, 2012 Full Review Mike McCahill Guardian It's unusual in using its 80-odd minutes to burrow down into these characters and match their psychic states with the (still underfilmed) location's physical terrain ... Rated: 3/5 Sep 6, 2012 Full Review David Jenkins Little White Lies A few mildly effective scares, but all so derivative. Rated: 1/5 Sep 6, 2012 Full Review Emma Wolfe SpookyAstronauts For a found footage film this film has so many flaws. Rated: 3/10 Apr 23, 2021 Full Review Naila Scargill Exquisite Terror A taut atmosphere is effectively created, emphasised by drip-feeding of subplot, with one particular twist genuinely surprising. Feb 28, 2019 Full Review Edward Frost CineVue Perhaps the most surprising element in Parry's film is how generally placid it is in attempting to deliver scares wrapped in emotional anguish. ShawBarrie A Not sure if I want to finish it. I’m barely an hour in and the whole world doesn’t line up. How the hell is she not seeing someone less than a few feet behind her. And don’t tell me it’s dark in the woods. Just two insecure men taking a girl in the woods the screw with her. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 05/11/25 Full Review KEVIN C Another in the endless line of found footage Blair Witch wannabes. This one I enjoyed the backstory of the dynamic of the three campers than what eventually happens to them in the end. There's bits of folklore that doesn't get much exposition. Overall it's not very memorable and I just finished it. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Pretty good for a found footage movie. A genre that's been way over done. A lot of men will recognize the type of girl the character Kerry is. The real horror show is the way Kerry interacts with her "cousin" Leo. And when Brody (current boyfriend) notices Kerry pulls some serious gaslighting on the poor aspiring filmmaker. This movie will remind a lot of dudes to trust their guts in relationships and why going mgtow ain't such a bad move. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie is so bad I'm officially leaving my very first ever review. There are 3 characters and not a single one is in any way likeable and not a single one can cooperate with the others. The writers wants you to wonder why the couple is having a problem in their relationship but I couldn't stop asking myself why they were ever together. They very clearly didn't like each other. Every found footage movie has a scene toward the middle or end where one of the characters gets mad and demands that the other stops filming them but the girlfriend was asking this of her boyfriend from the very beginning of the movie. There was such little horror that it wasn't until the last 20 minutes that I even remembered this movie was meant to be scary. Then, I'm guessing to jump scare the audience, the camera just starts making very loud noises all on its own that make no sense at all. And it ended almost exactly like Blair Witch project, which is to say that nothing happened and the movie was just over. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member "This is the path the horror fan must walk, this the path I have chosen. The path of watching a lot of not very good movies." A Night in the Woods doesn't just hit every cliche in the found footage genre, it does them bad too, like, really bad. Then, get ready to top it all off with: Absolutely no payoff whatsoever! Hurray! God I'm sick of found footage horror. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Almost like the Blair Witch, except extremely terrible.
