A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master marks a relative high point in this franchise's bumpy creative journey, although the original remains far superior.

Kevin Thomas Los Angeles Times "A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master" is by far the best of the series, a superior horror picture that balances wit and gore with imagination and intelligence. Oct 5, 2018 Full Review Karen Krizanovich Empire Magazine Surprisingly watchable for the third sequel and despite its general predictability it's entertainingly inventive. Rated: 3/5 Apr 5, 2010 Full Review Jonathan Rosenbaum Chicago Reader Consistently watchable and inventive. Apr 5, 2010 Full Review Matt Brunson Film Frenzy Director Renny Harlin can only do so much with a frequently silly story that finds Freddy brought back from the dead by, uh, fiery dog piss. Rated: 2/4 Oct 20, 2024 Full Review Dennis Harvey 48 Hills The most visually imaginative entry in a series that enjoyed quite a bit of surreal creative leeway from the start... Dec 8, 2023 Full Review Cody Leach Cody Leach (YouTube) Dream Master is a colorful and energetic slasher for the MTV generation. Freddy Krueger is the star and all the characters & set pieces exist solely to service his on-screen energy. The comedic edge of it's predecessor is unfortunately taken too far. JACK B Dream Master was the moment the franchise started to go off the rails, but there is still a lot of fun to be had in this colourful and stylish sequel. Renny Harlin gives us many creative kill sequences with great effects, while Lisa Wilcox serves as a good replacement for Nancy Thompson. The script, which is formulated around the kills, definitely lets the film down, and Freddy Krueger is starting to lose some of his edge at this point in the franchise. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 11/26/24 Full Review Omar G A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master (1988), 8/10 stars rating. Renny Harlin gave great Takes for the movie. Lots of pretty girls Lisa Wilcox as Alice Johnson. Tuesday Knight as Kristen Parker. Brooke Theiss as Debbie Stevens. Good Music and outstanding songs Love Kills by Vinnie Vincent Invasion, Don't Be Afraid Of Your Dreams by Go West, Back To The Wall by Divinyls, Are You Ready For Freddy? By The Fat Boys, Fatal Charm by Billy Idol, In The Flesh by Blondie, Pride and Joy by Joe Lamont, I Want Your (Hands On Me) by Sinéad O'Connor, Nightmare by Tuesday Knight. I liked the scenes in Dream land. I have watched A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master (1988) many times, I lost count at 45 or 50 times since 1989 and I have watched it maybe 15 more times. As Extras many pretty women. Alice the Strawberry Blonde, what she is inside she puts on the outside, her true self comes out to the one she fantasized about when she revealed herself to her father when the drunk humiliated her. She was afraid of failure, being alive is already success. The memorable deaths of Sheila Kopecky sucked by Freddy and that of Debbie turned into a cockroach by Screaming Mad George. The Freddy with two faces in his apparent death scene. Linnea Quigley topless as soul from Freddy's chest. Hope Marié Carltón the pin Up, is the sexiest in the movie. Brooke Bundy as Elaine Parker at this moment I am supposed to be the same age as her when she filmed the movie. Kevin Yagher designed the makeup for Robert Englund as Freddy Krueger. Applied by Howard Berger. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/29/24 Full Review Rowan C I do think that the third movie is better than this one, but this was way better than what I was expecting it to be. Nightmare on Elm Street movies always have good special effects and Freddy is always funny. Alice took on a big role in the movie, taking control of her dream and finally becoming the dream master. I thought this movie was entertaining, and I liked how they brought back some of the old cast from the third movie to play in this one. Again, the first one still takes the cake for being the best movie out of the franchise and there will probably not be another Freddy movie that beats the first one. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/24/24 Full Review John W Its not a good film and each time a sequel is made it gets slightly worse Rated 2 out of 5 stars 10/14/24 Full Review Jvhuu M A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master is a smart and creative continuation of the franchise. The film brings fresh energy with its vibrant visuals, creative dream sequences, and strong performances from Tuesday Knight as Kristen and Lisa Wilcox as Alice. With imaginative kills and a unique premise, The Dream Master delivers both scares and entertainment, making it a must-see for fans of '80s horror.
