Archi Sengupta LeisureByte.com With fantastic performances and a heartbreaking story to boot, this movie is not for the faint-hearted. Rated: 4/5 Jul 4, 2024 Full Review Jennifer Green Common Sense Media This Swedish drama combines moving turns from its teen stars with a nuanced script built around moments and emotions rather than major events or dialogues. Jun 12, 2024 Full Review John Serba Decider Maxime’s performance is a boon for A Part of You, helping it avoid enough of the cliche-pitfalls of weepies and coming-of-age dramas to warrant a watch. Jun 3, 2024 Full Review Jason Flatt But Why Tho? A Geek Community A Part of You is a powerful depiction of a teenager coping with sudden and horrific loss. But the movie itself is drawn out and disinteresting, let alone often quite frustrating. Jun 2, 2024 Full Review Taylor Gates Collider A Part of You is touching and effective without ever veering into emotionally manipulative or exploitative territory, which is not an easy feat when you’re dealing with this subject matter, especially in this genre. Dana V Sorry Sigge, I was really rooting for you, but this is too much of a cliché, overdramatized, overly melancholic and trying too hard to be heartbreaking. Sorry, this is not a good film. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 07/01/24 Full Review Thomas v Ambitious attempt, but boring: "A Part of You" aims at being a character-driven film that delves into the complexities of grief and adolescence. It follows Agnes, a 17-year-old girl portrayed by Felicia Maxime. The narrative unfolds slowly, as Agnes navigates the tumultuous emotions following the death of her popular older sister, Julia. The film's weakness lies in its inability to capture the individuality of grief. It presents a teenage portrait that is intense but unrelatable. The film is drawn out. Its slow build-up is intentional, mirroring the process of coming to terms with grief, but boring nevertheless. The movie does however, not shy away from difficult topics; a teenager coping with sudden and horrific loss. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 06/24/24 Full Review Sara A The red flag is when they try to use a big name (Zara Larsson) to sell the movie. I also disliked they used the cliché of the protagonist romancing her dead sister’s boyfriend. Would have been 100% better if things had stayed completely platonic between the two while they coped with their grief. The story has serious problems with pacing and sadly it’s not told in a very engaging way. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 06/22/24 Full Review Amanda K This movie is relatable for anyone who has experienced grief and the burdens it places on someone. When I first saw posts for the movie I was unsure about it and then when the trailer dropped it became clear to me the movie was not going to be what I expected. Watching it I related to all of the characters but Felicia as Agnes really nailed the performance of how grief can take twists and turns as you navigate that critical loss in your life. It’s such an important story because it highlights there is no wrong way grief even if you make mistakes along the way and that was what captivated me the most. How Felicia handles her character’s understanding of the situation and the why behind it. It truly is a powerful film. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/19/24 Full Review Audience Member A heart-shattering drama about young grief and finding oneself after incomprehensible loss depicted through masterful acting performances. A Part of You takes the viewer through the emotional intricacies of grief at a young age, when coming to terms with reality implies losing and finding (or reshaping) oneself. We get to follow the characters through this complex, confusing and transformative process in a way that feels however rather healing than anguishing. While the entire cast delivers strong performances, the main cast definitely stands out as masters of their craft. The protagonist does justice to the harrowing topic as she carries the heaviness of the introspective plot brilliantly. A beautiful and therapeutic experience I cannot but wholeheartedly recommend. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/19/24 Full Review Sara B An important movie about how grief can affect people in different ways. Excellent performances by all main actors and especially Felicia Maxime who portrayed her character’s emotions in a beautiful way. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/19/24 Full Review Read all reviews
