What to Know

Critics Consensus

The A-Team assembles a top-rate cast only to ditch the show's appealingly silly premise for explosive yet muddled blockbuster filmmaking.

Candice Frederick Reel Talk Online The A-Team certainly explodes onto the big screen in a major way. Tauhid E opening was soo thrilling. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/24/25 Full Review Hannah L Good old times or not... Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 10/22/25 Full Review TheMovieSearch R The modern remake of The A-Team, featuring Bradley Cooper, Liam Neeson, and Jessica Biel, tries hard to revive the spirit of the original but never quite finds its footing. It’s an action-packed, chaotic ride that delivers a few good laughs and entertaining set pieces, but as a whole, it struggles to maintain stability or substance. The film often feels scattered — fun in bursts, but inconsistent and tonally confused from scene to scene. The humor leans heavily into corny territory, which can be charming at times but mostly feels forced. The screenplay never decides whether it wants to take itself seriously or embrace full-on absurdity, leaving the audience caught somewhere in between. There are moments where you find yourself entertained by the over-the-top action, and others where the dialogue or logic make you roll your eyes. It’s a movie that knows it’s ridiculous — but doesn’t always use that self-awareness to its advantage. Bradley Cooper brings his usual charisma, giving the film much-needed energy. He’s got solid comedic timing and fits naturally in this kind of role. Liam Neeson lends the film some weight and authority, grounding the chaos just enough to make it bearable. Jessica Biel also does her best with what she’s given, adding a sense of balance to the testosterone-fueled madness. The cast does most of the heavy lifting here, making the film watchable even when the writing falters. From a critical standpoint, The A-Team is a messy, uneven production with a weak screenplay and too many moments that feel exaggerated for the sake of spectacle. But from an audience perspective, it’s the kind of movie you can throw on for some mindless entertainment. It’s not trying to be profound — it’s just a loud, over-the-top action flick that occasionally lands a good joke or delivers a fun stunt sequence. It’s not a film that demands much from you, and maybe that’s the point. For those looking for deep storytelling or a clever revival of the classic series, this won’t deliver. But if you’re in the mood for something loud, fast, and completely over the top, it’s fine for a casual watch. Ultimately, The A-Team is a film you’ll likely forget shortly after watching, but you won’t hate the experience of getting through it. It’s one of those “once every few years” movies — entertaining enough for a lazy afternoon, but far from memorable. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/22/25 Full Review Matthew D There's no point in rating this like a regular action thriller as its absurdist humor holds no logic or rationale. It's endless action among the ragtag group of soldiers and a crazy guy for huge laughs. Director Joe Carnahan’s action-comedy The A-Team (2010) is hilarious. I did not really enjoy this movie when it came out, but I’ve seen so much garbage since then that The A-Team is a riot by comparison. Carnahan keeps the escapes, chases, shootouts, explosions, and planning sequences coming. Writers Skip Woods, Joe Carnahan, and Brian Bloom’s jokes are constant and ridiculous. There is no attention to gravity like the amazing flying tank gag or logic, so there’s no point in trying to grade this movie like a real war movie or regular action thriller. It’s absolutely nuts and rather worthy of revisiting. Liam Neeson, Bradley Cooper, Sharlto Copley, and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson are outrageous in every scene. Liam Neeson quotes Gandhi to convince Baracus to get back to killing people and shave his hair into a mohawk. They ram a truck into an army hospital for the clinically insane. It’s just so stupid, that it somehow becomes clever with endless one-liners amidst a hail of bullets. The CGI looks awful and the editing is slapped together. I really like the close-ups and lighting here that has some style like the vivid cinematography. Remember when big blockbusters actually looked competent? Composer Alan Silvestri really plays around with his outlandish score that is fiery. The costumes are pretty neat how they look modern, but also recreate the show’s look. Liam Neeson is tough and intelligent as the meticulous tactician Colonel Hannibal Smith. He’s cool, calm, and clever enough to think up a plan in advance to save the guys every time. Sharlto Copley is a constant source of levity as the insane pilot Howling Mad Murdock. He’s hysterical here and never ceases to get real laughs out of me. He goes for a wilder Sam Rockwell style of performance and it pays off in gold. Bradley Cooper is practically bouncing off the wall as the resourceful Face Peck. He’s witty, handsome, hilarious, and charming. He’s practically like a better Star Lord here weirdly, or like a human version of Rocket Raccoon. Cooper should perhaps lean back into comedies instead of chasing Oscars in dramas. He was very funny like in Licorice Pizza and Guardians of the Galaxy. He actually has chemistry with Jessica Biel’s hot and persistent Captain Charissa Sosa. She seems totally alert and engaging, bringing energy to her scenes with Bradley. Patrick Wilson’s foolish CIA agent Lynch is very funny. He’s got so many resources available and is still unable to contend with The A-Team. Jon Hamm gets a cameo as Agent Lynch for the CIA as well, to hint at a potential sequel we never got. Brian Bloom’s henchman Brock Pike is a blast as the other villain. He gets as many one-liners as the main guys. Gerald McRaney is solid as General Russell Morrison. Henry Czerny guest stars as the CIA Director McCready, which is likely a nod to his iconic role in Mission: Impossible as IMF Director Kittridge. In all, it is funny and that is enough for me today.
