Critics Consensus

Much like its protagonist, the frustratingly diffuse A Thousand Clouds of Peace drifts along in a fruitless search for satisfaction.

04/03/2011 "A Thousand Clouds Of Peace" is a line from a romantic poem that ends with something like "...peace is in the sky." I'm not sure but the movie is about broken hearts finding love. It's the first feature of director Julian Hernandez and it's disappointing after watching his last 2 films "Broken Sky" and "Raging Sun, Raging Sky." All his features allude to the sky and ideal love. There's more dialogue in this film but Hernandez' is a Mexican artist more interesed in images and style. His movie is inert and boring. Gerardo is the protagnist getting over a rejection by Bruno. Their relationship is brief and allegorical. When Gerardo is cruel and callously rejects others in grieving, we don't identify with him. He meets a hoodlum who punches him out and this scene leaves more questions than answers. It would be nice to get some subtext to some of the scenes and background to some of the characters. With the director/writer, what he shows you is all you get. See more 01/08/2010 En DVD. See more 12/17/2007 Flawed but overall really beautiful and poetic. A piece of experimental cinema that deals with love and loneliness in a weird, slow, not-so-great way that haunts you even if you don't love it to death. A tough-to-watch movie that deserves a chance. See more Read all reviews
