Audience Member Wim Wenders and a class of film students made this tribute to German early film pioneers (the Skladanowsky brothers) who apparently beat the Lumieres to hold the first moving picture show by a few weeks. Shot in places with antique cameras and mixing fictionalized re-enactments (starring Udo Kier) and an interview with the then 91 year old daughter of one of the bros. A bit corny (as Wenders sometimes can be) and drags a little even at an hour long, but if you are interested in the early days of cinema this could be for you. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member Saw this on DVD, which I suspect doesn't really do it justice, - much more of an event film. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member A Trick of Light is the relatively unknown story about the three Skladanowsky brothers, three forgotten film pioneer. In this lovely underated picture we see a reenactment in bronze black and white, with all the authentical element of the 1890s way of filmmaking. The film also focusing on a present day interview with the 91-years-old daughter of one of the pioneers by a buch of movie people including Wim Wenders all listening instrested. A Trick of Light is candy for all movie lovers. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
