A Very British Gangster proves yet again that one great asset of film is vicarious participation in crime. Go to Full Review

Investigative journalist Donal MacIntyre's film is fairly standard British TV product, closer to a glorified 60 Minutes segment then to cinematic art. But never mind -- its subject is, as he might say, feckin' amazing. Go to Full Review

02/03/2016 Doesn't try very hard to be balanced, or particularly revealing in the sense of an expose. It is quite insightful on the role of extended family, friends and acquaintances in the subject's community standing. Makes a depressing topic easily watchable and surprisingly interesting and informative. See more 05/07/2015 In one hand this does perfectly to destroy the Hollywood myth of cool, suave, rich gangsters; instead showing their poor, uneducated, tragic and seemingly inherent lives in a dull, almost comical sense. On the other, it goes around in circles, drags out and seems to never reach a point. See more 10/28/2012 If this is what a British gangster is all about then i'm.... zzz. I would have rather watched a documentary on his brother. 2009 Movies: 87 See more 05/04/2012 Ah ces anglais! I LOVE FUCKING ENGLAND! See more 09/14/2011 I don't doubt the validity and strength of Noonan and the family: they're clearly triple hard bastards. Yet despite the influence and the underground success, Noonan doesn't have much to show for his efforts - he seems content to take tribute in the form of Full English Breakfasts or a free pint in the local. Perhaps it's because his 'territories' are so poor. Perhaps it is because his moon is on the wane. But in a world of gangsters killing other gangsters and prison an accepted inevitability, I would expect Noonan to aspire to more. As it stands he drives forlornly around in his knackered old cop-car arbitrating local disputes like an underground social worker. See more 08/20/2011 A beautifully shot, but also rather staged and stilted documentary on the life of Dominic Noonan, head of one of Britain's notorious crime families. While the film does a good job revealing the unromantic, gritty and harsh world Noonan, his family and associates inhabit, it also seems at times to glorify his life. See more Read all reviews
