Expectant mother Naomi Trice (Mady Christians) answers the front door and finds her thuggish husband, Ed (Paul Harvey), wild-eyed, furious and threatening to leave her. When Naomi refuses to let Ed take their young son, Curtis (William Henry), with him, Ed attacks her -- and she guns him down in self-defense. After dragging his body into the murky waters of the local swamp, Naomi gathers her children and moves them to the city, where she struggles to provide her growing family with a new start.
