Cath Clarke Guardian The movie is full of wackiness but contains only traces of comedy. Rated: 2/5 May 11, 2018 Full Review Andrew Murray The Upcoming There's a worthwhile film to found somewhere [here]; deep down below its lazy animation, nightmare-inducing character models and generic all-round badness. Rated: 1/5 Sep 14, 2018 Full Review Betty Jo Tucker ReelTalk Movie Reviews This colorful animated film might not work for many adults, but most youngsters should be entertained by all the action, whimsical creatures, and fantasy/reality jumps. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/01/22 Full Review Audience Member So rotten... this princes texture.... Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Based on a popular show from the 60's, Here comes the Grump, A Wizard's Tale picks up on what made this show great in its creation of an interesting and fantastical world. If the world straight from a child's imagination doesn't capture you then the characters will. With the talented voices of Toby Kebbell, Lily Collins, and Ian McShane, the characters are give depth that you don't find in every animated movie these days and add an interesting layer of realism to the characters and the story. The characters are very easy to connect to, whether it be Terry, Toby Kebbell, a boy being thrown about in this crazy upside world trying to find some sense of normal, or Princess Dawn, Lily Collins, a girl who is waiting for things to come to her before realizing that things don't work that way and you need to do things for yourself. Even the villain of The Grump, Ian McShane has an interesting and real back story for the viewers to connect to. This movie led me on an adventure that I won't be soon to forget. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Intertwining a story of loss and self-discovery, Ice Age 2's Jim Hecht delivers a magical coming-of-age story with A Wizard's Tale. Hecht pens the story of Terry (voiced by Toby Kebbell), a young man from London that is searching for his purpose in life in the wake of a personal tragedy. When everything starts crumbling around him, Terry finds himself launched into a magical kingdom that is seemingly straight from his grandmother's storybook. As he struggles to find his way back home, Terry must overcome obstacles both in the kingdom but also within himself. The film's script is supported by flawless animation and a soundtrack that conveys every twist and turn Terry faces. A Wizard's Tale manages to bring in that sense of childhood nostalgia and pair it with events that some adults face every day. This is a film that I can easily say I'd enjoy whether I'm six or twenty-six, so I'd highly suggest this story for the next family movie night.
