      ronald h "Above Ground" is a micro budget indie feature with a silly twist two thirds of the way through. I'm ashamed to say I didn't see it coming, but then, I'm slow. Still, there are a few other pretty good surprises. The film considers itself small town noir in the vein of "Blood Simple" or "Fargo", but it's so cartoonish, there are lots of unintentional laughs (or maybe they're intentional....?). The cinematography is competent, and Ken Campbell is memorable as a sleazy private detective. He's no M. Emmet Walsh, but he gives it a good shot.
