      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

It's undeniably reverent of the real-life heroes in its cast, but Act of Valor lets them down with a clichéd script, stilted acting, and a jingoistic attitude that ignores the complexities of war.

Nicolas P It was great to have real SEALs in a movie, but there is a reason directors use real actors. The movie is interesting because of the reenactments, but the narration is terrible. (Absolutely no inflection in the narrator's voice...I mean none.) If you can make it past the narration, it will pass the time. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/23/24 Full Review Laurie S The stupid reviewers who complained about the acting probably didn't know the cast were active duty Navy seals. Do your jobs properly you spoiled brats. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/07/24 Full Review Chris Z This was a movie that grabbed me from the beginning and I was so impressed that real tactics were used in the filming, as well as using real SEALs in the scenes. Yet another movie with a huge rating disparity between "critics" and regular viewers. Go figure. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/19/24 Full Review chris g As a military veteran I appreciate the authenticity of many things in this movie. Highly recommend this movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/04/24 Full Review Donald S I am not one for war movies like this. However I really liked the first person camera shots. I thought the acting was okay but the cinematography was really well done. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/03/23 Full Review Iain B Atrocious, what a waste of time. Very poor. Tara Brady Irish Times I guess they had to be realistic in order to make up for the dialogue, the acting, the special effects, the mawkishness, the closeted homoeroticism, the jingoism... Rated: 1/5 Apr 1, 2012 Full Review Peter Bradshaw Guardian In the 1980s, Top Gun reportedly sent young men rushing to join the military; this hilariously bad film is going to get them clamouring to join the Jon Stewart Appreciation Society. Rated: 1/5 Mar 22, 2012 Full Review Tim Robey Daily Telegraph (UK) The film is almost unashamedly a recruitment video for future Seals, but let's hope possession of a PlayStation 3 doesn't become the sole condition for enrolling. Rated: 2/5 Mar 22, 2012 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies “Act of Valor” does enough of what it’s aiming for. Rated: 2.5/5 Aug 19, 2022 Full Review Howard Gorman NME (New Musical Express) Shadowing real-life SEALs as they re-enact some of the most stunning combat sequences ever put to film, this is the closest a film has ever got to emulating a Call of Duty game.
