Mihir Bhanage The Times of India The performances are sincere and there are some genuine scary scenes. But the Bidisha Chowdhury directorial appears to be a half-baked and hasty attempt at a genre that is gradually moving away from the age-old framework. Audience Member As someone who doesn't usually watch horror movies because they are all cliché and not scary, when I watched Adaline, firstly, the reason the film was refreshing because it's creepy with a scary edge. It's the right amount of everything, weird, creepy and eerie. The plot allows you to lower your guard. Just when you think you've figured it all out there's another twist that comes along and makes you think "Gee, why didn't I think of that". This is a movie which is always one step ahead of you! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member First of all I have to say Adaline is NOT a horror movie. If you are expecting a slasher movie or your typical full-fledged horror movie which has jump scares, gore and blood every 5 minutes with not much of a storyline then this movie is not for you. After moving to an old house, a young woman finds that there are more than just a ghost waiting for her in that lonely old house and surroundings. This film doesn't have anybody in it you would recognize. Which, to me, made it seem more "real." It's not perfect. It does have some clichés, some jump out and "BOO!" kind of scares. The characters seemed real and flawed but the story kept you guessing. The film is different and unique in its own right. Why? Because it's actually got a good storyline for this genre and it keeps you guessing! I recommend Adaline to anyone who likes this type of thriller - where atmosphere, mystery, and story take the lead over lots of action and mayhem. Overall, a gothic thriller which has some scary scenes to entertain. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Very disappointing film. Lost between horror, serial killer, and ghost story but achieved none. Acting very poor all round. Plot weak and boring. 'Scares' very ordinary. Would not recommend Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Read all reviews
